Friends, need some advise here... I am looking for a solution for my bedroom. Dont want a typical 5.1, but something with virtual surround. I was looking at soundbars, but they sound average.

I have an extra pair of Bose Acoustimass 5 speakers which I can use. I need to know if there is an amp which can produce virtual surround using two speakers? Or, would i have to go in for seomthing else?

My budget is ot more than 25k for the amp. Should I import from the US or buy in India? Please help!!!

Regards,
Maninder

Hi, you can get the denon AVR 1312 and hook it up to your BOSE speakers. Its a very good entry level 5.1 receiver.Since you already have them, best is to make use of them. You can buy the receiver locally instead of importing so that you also get warranty. They will sound better than soundbars. If you want sound bars.........have you looked at Polk Audio, Denon, Definitive tech, yamaha, harman kardon. These are the ones you should be looking at.

hi maninder,

From what i understand, you are looking for an amp which will produce virtual surround sound using your 2 existing accoustimass speakets. I am not sure whether normal avr's or amps can do that. Virtual surround is normally something which is advertised by soundbars. They acheive this by using a set of speakers in a line and try reflecting the sound by directing it sideways. You can search for soundbars in the forum and there are threads where the virtual sound feature is explained.

Antony

i know the hk3490 has a feature for virtual surround sound. it does work to an extent. but if you have the am5 (2 fronts and 1 centre and 1 sub) i believe that will work decently enough in a small room instead of limiting yourself to an amp with specifically virtual surround sound. just get a decent 5.1 amp and it should be fine. pairing a system is imp though so listen before you buy. the yamaha pairs pretty decently with the bose. others to look at are denon, marantz, onkyo...

Thank you friends! I guess, I will use these for stereo listening and buy myself a small 5.1 HT package. Thanks again for the replies!

why go virtual when you can go 5.1!!! A 5.1 setup would be the best way to do it. If you want the best value for money system, you cant beat the onkyo HTS 3400 5.1 system for 22k. Its the cheapest one available and its pretty good for the price.

 you have been recommending denon everywhere on the forum and now you suddenly suggest onkyo???

Mate, i think time you started having your own opinion........and not just read knowledge...

I guess the best set-up would be to connect 5.1 (bose) speakers to a new AVR, but just incase you are inclined towards sound bars. Yamaha AVRs have a feature where virtual surround is produced through soundbars. Its possible only through soundbars. Download manual for Yamaha RX V371 page 27.
