It seems it is not the best idea to run speaker wires along with a power cable, but I am in a fix. I want to run projector's power cable, hdmi and surround speaker wiring in a single conduit.
Is it a complete no-no or is there some secret ingredient?

Anant,

It is generally not a good idea. In addition, speaker cables are usually unshielded.

Regards.

I also have an MX hdmi cable that whenever touches any power cord, too much noise starts in the picture, indicating bad shielding. I also have some hdmi cables that dont show this behaviour. you might want to check yours.
You can find some mechanism on the net to shield the spkr cable. try it out.

Signal cables can cross perpendicular to a power cable when they have to.
don't run them parallel within a feet of each other.

I had a similar problem for my ceiling mounted pj, the only way I could do it was to have a separate set of white duct( similar to the kind used for computer cables) running with the HDMI cable in it. Why not call your electrician and ask him if he has any ideas?

if you already have the cable, you can wrap the cable in some kind of foil and then use a heatshrink tube. google for more details.
cables that have adequate shielding dont have issues. test with a 2m cable and if it works, buy bigger length of the same cable.

cables are going to be at least 25ft long so would it be practical to wrap them? Are there any decent shielded speaker cables available?
