Speakers for Marantz NR1601 7.1 Channel AVR

Hi friends,
The Marantz NR 1601 receiver has arrived. Please suggest me matching speakers.
Stating my requirements again:::My usage will be mainly 70 % movies and 30 % music. I will be connecting my laptop, reliance Big Tv HD set top box and my DVD player to watch movies mostly. I have no plans for going for surround speakers due to space constraints.I will be placing the speakers in the TV room which also opens up to the dinning room. The two rooms together can be considered as 'L' shaped. The room where the Tv is placed forms the 'l' part of the 'L' which is 11x11. The other room is 15 x 15.
-I would like to go for a 2.0 set up . Will go for 2.1 if there are any opinions from FM which will meet my requirements
-My budget is 40 K max.
-Will you suggest a pair of BS or FS? (My usage will be mostly for movie purpose)

I have demoed few FS earlier - Denon with Polk tsx 330 and 440, Onkyo with Jamo s426/s428 and Sonodyne sonus 2605 v3 , Yamaha with yamaha speakers and Finaly listened to tannoy mercury v4 with a marantz stereo amp. But never listened to BS before.

-Any suggestions from above speakers.

-please check the below link for more details on the receiver
Marantz US | NR1601

Any other details required please ask...Please Help....

On using the setup for 70% movies left, right and centre speakers are required to enjoy to some extent. Adding a sub to this setup depends on the FS, BS or sat speakers and their ability to stage the sound. If you are looking for a adhoc setup and planning to upgrade later then BS XS 2.1 is an option you may audtion and consider on your liking.

Also Sonodyne BS may pair well with Marantz given the speaker's bright sound signature, I feel your AVR will not be able to bring the best out of Sonus 2605 as specs wise it appears to be under powered. Happy audtioning and all the best!

Thanks Prakash.. I have a DVD home theatre system and the sub sounds very boomy. So I am very sceptical about having a sub. Thats why a good pair of FS came into my mind. Will a pair of BS alone will suffice or should it be complimented by a sub?

Also I dont like playing music or movies loudly. So is Maratz with 50 w per channel @ 8 ohm is powerful enough to drive a FS?

Recently i bought Marantz NR1601 and Boston AS XS5.1, the combination is pretty good, without any doubt go with Boston AS XS5.1 for 5.1 setup later you can add two good BS speakers for 7.1 setup as well music too.

I just got hand onto one NR1601 bought by my friend and connected to my wharfi combo, believe me the unit really rocks on movie and music front as well.
Though I feel, its bit less powered as compared to my SR301, but has enough in stock for the blast. Very nice AVR with tons of features good enough for another 10 yrs atleast if some one does not dream of 4K etc in INDIA......

Boston Acoustics is owned by D&M holdings. No wonder why they pairs well with Marantz...I am thinking about Boston A26 BS speakers.

I called up hifimart for their opinion..they recommended Wharfi and Boston 5.1 if i think about surround. They recommended BS for my set up and proposed Boston A 26 which is a 'Large' BS.

Hi folks,

Boston A26 was not available for demo.I bought Polk Tsx 440t FS after a demo.It suites my taste .Will update my thread later on because I m not getting quality time to spend with the system. Connected my mobile to the receiver and 50 w marantz is driving the FS smoothly even at 40 % volume and the sound fills my entire house. HD channels on tata sky HD( replaced Big tv HD) also sounds great.

Mobile connected to receiver and Listening to 'lagu muh lag gaya' from Ram Leela while writing this, The highs, mids and lows are sounding well.
I will put a detailed review later on.
