Hi guys!

I just bought a Verna and was looking to upgrade its speakers. I won't be changing the head, just the speakers. My budget is 30-35k, stretchable to 40k. I am looking at component speakers with one subwoofer. I want a very clean and clear sound, and am totally against the car rattling loud speakers. The number of brands out there have got me confused and since no dealer offers a demo, it is really difficult to decide just by looking at the box. I've been suggested focal, Rockford, diamond, alpine for components. I've been suggested subwoofer from JBL, alpine and pioneer. I am looking at amps from hertz and Rockford.

Please help me out!

U will have to change the HU or even after spending 40k, u will be left disappointed.
Coming from a fellow verna owner..

Go with something like
HU(touch screen) - 20k
Components front - 8-10k
Coaxial rear - 3-4k
Amp - 8k odd

For now you could go with high sensitivity front components too, in that case you wont need an amp, though i do suggest an amp + comp combo.

Thanks for replying!
Why will I I need to change the HU if I am going for an amp? And I would prefer components for rear as well.....
And can you please suggest me a brand?

See this is more like saying that i own a top end marantz avr with pre outs and bla bla + top of the line b&w speakers + a top of the line led 3d tv and i intend to connect all this to a el-cheapo chinese imported dvd player available locally. Im sure you get the drift.

Im using a pioneer 2490 BT with Focal access components without an amp in my honda city. Enough sound for me hence didnt put an amp and the focal access r easy to drive. But i have heard the same with a solid 4 amp and it makes a world of difference.
That said, Rockford fosgate or higher series of focal is preferred over the access series.
Also one can achieve audiophile level of sound only via a single Din HU and not double din. But then u sacrifice on the interiors.

Take a call on the above factors, narrow down your choice and then im sure me or other member will be able t suggest.

I.E i love the 'performance' series of Focal. Others swear by fosgate or JBL(intl series). Kickers r gr8 for hiphop whilst i found good SS in Boston acoustics too. 40K might not be enough mate :)

I'm looking at focal poly glass 165vb which will cost me around 10-11k a pair. I may use the access series for rear speakers. Please suggest me a nice 4 channel amp within 10k to go with these speakers. And I won't be changing the head now, will do that afterwards if I am not satisfied with the company fitted one. Right now, I'm just looking to upgrade the speakers and add an amp. Also, are there any good subwoofers within 5-6k(including everything) that give an accurate base. I am willing to go with a low output as I just want deep base rather than loud glass shattering base.....

Man, if you can please suggest me something within the mentioned budget as i don't want to overspend. I won't be able to spend 14k on a woofer. Can you suggest me something cheaper?

12-14k is the price of the amp and not the woofer.
JBL has an 8k amp, but in that case u rather buy jbl speakers.
Overall it will all turn out to be cheaper.

Well, I will go for the focal access series if budget is a problem. I guess that is way better than JBL any day. And I am looking at amps from alpine and hertz. Lets see if they have a good one within 10k....

though i have the access, i took it cause they can run without an amp.
But, if ur taking an amp, do look at the rockford's too, highly recommended.

Check also Kenwood amps..They are really underrated.. :)

One of friend got complete setup from Driven East of Kailash, Delhi. Impressive sound but damage to pocket was approx 75K.

He got Mosconi amp.

Hi all,

I have booked a verna 1.6 crdi and expect to receive it in a few weeks. I had a 5 channel (4+1 sub out) amplifier and a IDQ 12 inch sub in my old car and I have removed it to use it in Verna. But I heard that the OEM HU has only 2 pre outs. How can I make use of the amp and sub if there is only 2 pre outs ? I was guessing, I could use the front and sub driven by the amp and the rear component can be connected to the HU straight ? Is it possible to do so or is there a better way to get around this issue ?

I am not planing to upgrade the HU for now as I am tight on cash, but definitely will upgrade down the line.

Thanks much in advance.

Regards,
Sabarish

I dont know Jithu, I see that the current input were from the HU to amp via rca. I have a single din HU with 3 pre out. Below is the specifications of the amp. I wont understand it completely even if I look at the details :) sorry

Crunch P5000.5 (cru-p50005) PowerZone Series 5-Channel Amplifier

Edit: It says no speaker level input in the 'features' tab. So thats bad news ?

From the pics and spec (luckily the page is not blocked in office. :)), it seems it has only the RCA inputs.
Regarding the OEM HU - 2 preouts, usually these preouts acts in 2 ways
1) 1st RCA to front channel and 2nd RCA to rear channel
2) 1st RCA to front channel and 2nd RCA to sub (LPF must be set at the amp)

If this can be used in 2nd way, you can connect the rear channel direct to the HU, without the amp.

If the 2nd option is not available, the only logical thing you can do is to the use the 2 RCA outs from OEM HU for front and rear to the amp.
Then connect the amp outs to front speakers and sub.
And set the LPF at amp for the rear channel at 80Hz.
Rear speakers will be connected directly from the HU itself.

Else buy a new HU. :) ..

Thanks a lot Jithu. I will check with the installers (did it from Evo previously) and see if there is an easy way out. I cannot spend much on the new HU now (I see a decent one that will be equivalent to the OEM in looks will cost atleast 35k) as I am broke after a few purchases for the home stereo :( Will have to wait till my wife forgets about the expenditures before I think about new stuff for music !

I was always wondered, how my wife recalls my every ICE or home audio purchases that i made with clear cut details (prices only and not the equipments..hehe).
So its a global phenomenon..Nice...

Hi all,

I have have got my verna sx 1.6 crdi last week and have went ahead and installed the ice, which I was using in my previous car. I had the crunch 5 channel amp (4 speakers and one sub out). I have used a line out converter (some indian brand) to power the front component speakers and the sub. Rear speakers are powered by the HU straight. I have retained the stock HU. I have a few doubts.

I have a humming sound from the speakers and when I accelerate it increases slightly. I have had such issue in my previous car also and they did a separate wire to earth the HU and it was working properly. Is this a bad thing to do if it comes down to it ?

Also, even though the installer guys promised there wont be any cutting of cables, they did strip the insulation cable that were going to/from the HU to get connections to the line out converter and in the last part of the installation, they did cut and joined a couple of wires too. Was this a bad thing to do ? Should it voids the warranty ? Should I revert and change the cabling that has been tampered ? How much will it cost me in case I need to reinstate the cables as it was before ?

I have installed the scuff covers which illuminates when the door is open. For this also they have removed the insulation (did not cut it completely) and joined the cables to these scuff covers. Is this a bad to be do ?

I really feel bad for letting the installers rape the cabling of the car (maybe because its still so new car to me) and feel cheated as initially the installers said there wont be any cutting the cables. Or is it the normal way of getting these things installed ?

Thanks a lot in adavance for any comments/help on straightening my conscience regarding this mis(?)adventure of mine.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
