Speakers for Verna

congrats on the ICE..

1) do the grounding properly (regarding the humming sound)..

2) IMHO, if you take your car to the dealer with some electric problem and if they see the amp, at that instance, they can say that you have tampered with the electrical and your warranty can be void.

But usually (considering Maruti and Hyundai dealers) they don't do it. So don't worry.Enjoy the music and the car.. :)

Thanks a lot Jithu. So you meant that the cutting and stripping the cables are okay/a sacrifice for the better sound quality in a budget ?

I thought of replacing the line out converter with a better one and just now ordered a 4 channel (for the front and rear door speakers) and a 2 channel (for the sub) scosche line out converters from amazon. It came really cheap including the shipping/duty et.al considering the price quoted by the dealers here.

Yep..and only if you enjoy the music. :)

BTW usually the installers don't cut wires, they use the plug type connectors that can be connected to the end plug (which is connected to the stock HU)

Cutting or rather adding of wires is needed only for the amp installation, that requires a guage wire to be run along from battery to amp. :)

Jithu, So obviously the installers did do something harmful as I have seen them cutting the cables going to the connector behind the HU. They stripped insulation from some and did cut couple of wires. Is it possible to revert all these bruises made on the wires by re-fixing the connector ?
Also I had another doubt on removing the HU assembly from the car. The installers used a normal screw driver with flat head to push the HU assembly out of its place in the car. This has slighty damaged a few portions of the car plastic around the corners. Not noticeable immediately, but if it has to be done a few more times, the damages will be visible. Should they be using any better equipment than a screwdriver to remove the HU assembly from the car ?

Warm regards,
Sabarish

I think the damage done is done. But you can check with any other installer to verify, whether they crop other wires and use the connector which comes with the car to be installed again and also to use the extra plug type connectors instead. Though i don't have that much hope.

In some cars a specialized plastic screw driver thing is needed to remove the OE HU assembly (in VW (has a vento so know it :)) and skoda).
But for others like maruti, they use the flat head section of screw driver with some cloth over it, so that it doesn't damage the plastic parts around it. You can ask them to do like that too..
There is also a plastic type flat head screwdriver used by some installers..(Only seen it in pics in Indian auto forums.. :))

Thanks Jithu for your re-assuring comments :) I guess I will try to clean up things by re-doing the connectors so that there is less for the Hyundai guys to complain. Also I will insist on the installers to use a less damaging way (plastic flat head screwdriver) to get the trim around the HU. Thanks again.
