hey,

am new here but dazzled with all the info flowing around ! Am looking at setting up a HT with denon 1911 .. and here are few queries :

a) 1911 costs $ 400 in US on amazon and around Rs. 36 K here in India. if i get someone to bring it along from US, woudl that work fine as option or wd the specs differ ( 110 V etc ) ?

b) what speakers are suggested ? am not looking at tower units ... had seen HK serier at JBL showroom which sounded great. are those great with 1911 or should i see more ? budget for speakers : say Rs. 30 to 50 K

c) someone suggested i buy bose speakers as they look nice & small ..

music would be 70 % & movies 30 %. music ranges from rock to old hindi ...

any help on a,b,c above would be appreciated :)

If you can get it from US, go for it. You would have to buy a step-down transformer, which would cost around 2-2.5K.

There are quite a number of threads here about speaker packages for 1911. A decent 5.1 package comprising bookshelves will set you back by 40-50K. You can get a sub-sat package from Polk, Energy, Boston Acoustics for around 25-35K.

There are better speakers than Bose which would cost you much less. Check the brands above and try to demo them.

Hey!! ..

Am a noobi as well.. so my advice is only on what i have picked up from esteemed members of this forum, and from my very little experience ins speaker hunting.

Suggest you pick up the amp from here only. Picking up from USA initial investment may be less, but you;ll have to buy step down also.

The 1911 is running at a discount right now. I have got quotes for Denon 1911 @ 32100 to 34500.

Plus ull Get warranty as well. The step down + Amp will also eat a lot of electricity .. so you might be paying more in the long run.

Speakers.

Hunt. properly. 5.1 setups are so many .. but in your price range you should get a really good one from Klipsch or Montior Audio or Wharfedale etc.

the other option, .. the more painstaking option, is to patiently put together your 5.1/7.1 setup if you have time + patience.

Pick up a good pair of Bookshelves - If you dont have a size restriction for Bookshelves, then so far i have liked the Klipsch B-20 set, The Heco Bookshelves a lot. The Q Acoustics are also very good!.

Then go in for a good sub, then center, then surrounds. you might spend a lot more .. but am pretty sure you'll love your system / setup.

The added advantage of this is that in future, when you have a little more cash to spend, you can upgrade each set slowly and get a decent resale price for your speakers.

thats just my take.

Cheers!

p.s - budget about 3 to 5k for speaker cables as well. :D

I have Denon 1909 and have been using Dali Ikon series 6 for front , centre and surround speakers.
I am 50 % on movies ( both blu ray and HD DTH movies) and soft rock /jazz/ ghazals / instrumentals.
In case you could increase yr budget over a time span, then do look at theDali setup.
Cheers

I've got the Jamo A102 HCS6 with Denon 1911 and it rocks .. very happy with the purchase ...

Also the speakers are tiny, looks good too along with being cost effective.

For that budget, add Q Acoustics 2050 (2 x 6.5" Drivers + 1" Tweeter)
to your audition list...

Fairly priced @ Rs.42,000 for Matte Finish... these speakers are good match to connect with Denon-1911...

With 150w @ 6Ohms Peak Power and 50-150w Base Power Handling, they are really soft on ears with great Highs and Mids, and Base good enough to give you a soothing musical experience...
