Spotify in India; launching on Jan 31

I’ve been using Spotify pretty much from the time they launched.

The choice it offers is quite expansive compared to most others. The range in Indian classical music is good but other a tad limited when it comes to desi movie songs.

As hifitoaster mentions I quite like its suggestions based on what I am listening.

I also like the fact that one can play tracks using one device on another. Both devices need to be online and could be a zillion miles away! Helps me use it as a remote. A feature I would love for Tidal to have as well.

The SQ is quite good. Currently use, gaana, Amazon music, Spotify and Tidal. Have previously used Apple and google music and saavn.

Only issue which should vanish after official India launch is its availability on Indian app stores. One can always use US etc., App Store Login credentials to download it and no issues once we login. IP also doesn’t make a difference then.

We don’t need no VPN even now :)

I'm using Tidal and pretty happy with its seamless integration with Roon. The MQA format albums are quite well mastered on Tidal.

@Nikhili is using both Spotify and Tidal, he can give us a better comparitive info.
I am using both. Tidal is way better than Spotify in terms of SQ. Haven't explored much for songs since i subscribed recently. I tried both Premium and HiFi accounts. Premium account SQ is much like Spotify premium but HiFi is way above.

Get the tidal app from sources like apk store, use your login without any vpn, works like a charm and has offline mode too, i have not tried offline though

Not able to use Tidal mobile app for USB Dac. Unlike UAPP, Tidal player is not recognizing my iFi micro DAC :/

My bad. It is UAPP which was impacting it. Uninstalling UAPP is making tidal app work. But it sounds like $#@!^. The digital audio path in UAPP is way too good compared to Tidal app.

Recently I have subscribed Tidal premium membership. Tidal have very good sound quality close to CD and great collection of music. Their Masters albums are much better than hi-fi. Subscription is little expensive for us about Rs. 2000/- per month ( £ 20). If you wish to subscribe, go through US country VPN as it cost $20 ( Rs. 1400/-) from US. They have two months free membership for trial. Rs. 2000/- per month is expensive, you can buy four CD albums monthly but available of music album is scary. Family membership sharing is one of the best option for Tidal. If you are music lover and looking for sound quality and music quantity go for Tidal. Indian music is very limited hard to find.

Dear All,
Tidal Family at a very Low Rate.

1) Creat a Account using VPN from Turky.
2)Tidal Premium Family subscription @ 30 TL per month.
3) 1 TL = appro 13 Rs.
4) Make 5 family members + you.Total 6.
5) 30 TL by 6= 5TL per head per month.
6) 13X5 TL=65 Rs.per month per head.

I hope this post will get approved by admin.

I just checked it once more - when you look for spotify app in google play store (India) , its saying - Spotify: Free Music and Podcast Streaming

I thought apple music was good. After listening to tidal and especially tidal masters now I can't go back to it. Did A/B comparison on multiple tracks. There is no comparison at all. Tidal is the winner hands down.
But tidal has hardly any indian songs. In that front apple music wins.

Jan 31 is here. No news on launch. Not on Google App Store.
Even spotify.com says
"Not available in your country"
Cheers,
Raghu
