Stereo Speakers for Rs 50000-60000

how were the audioengine ae5s? i know that they don't compare with the rest, but how were they for the price?

Audioengine A5....

At one point in time i was pretty much set to buy them... Coz trust me they sound really really good.

Then i thought a few things....

1. Currently i have Creative Gigaworks T20. So going from that to A5 wont be a big enough jump upwards in sound.

2. I realised that only a Separate Stereo AMP + Speakers can give me the quality & quantity of sound that i'm looking for.

3. My budget allowed better speakers so i thought i might as well get better and then i probably wont have to worry for say maybe 5 yrs or maybe even more for an upgrade. So i thought i should get the best that i can afford.

4. The A5 dont have grills. I feel it would be quite easy to accidently damage them.

However for the Price i feel they are "Absolute Value for Money". They have a very Clean & Exciting Sound with good amounts of bass.

Hope that helps you...

Thanks for the quick reply. Something more :P

1. How would AE5 + Asus Xonar DX compare with a Wharf 9.1/9.2 + Norge receiver?

2. How would AE5 compare with TSI 300 (Polk) + Denon 1611 receiver.

3. Do you think that speaker stands make a significant difference?

My Thoughts....

1. Wharf 9.1/9.2 + Norge receiver will sound better. A Speaker+Amp Separate will always sound better than a Active Pair... Of course there can be exceptions...where price comes into play. A high quality expensive Active Pair can be better than many cheaper Speaker+Amp combo.

2. I find Polk Audio Sound to be way too Bright. Though you might like it. Though a AV-Reciever will never give you the sound quality of a Stereo Amp ( again that is subjective to cost of the respective gear ).

3. Stands surely make a huge difference. My advise is to use on a table or a shelf till the time you can Buy a "Quality Pair of Stands" ( Upwards of 10K ).

Hope that helps... ;-)

Hi Rana
....
The V series is not discontinued, very much a current model
USHER AUDIO

Hi Sridhar,
Sorry for the confusion created in my post. AFAIK the Usher USA website was showing this as discontinued. I am happy that the Usher URL in your post shows its availability.
Regds,

Altho I came in late, thought you folks had a nice thread going here. However, it looks like it's stalled for now....wht happened...it looks like OP has lost the momentum...not the drive i hope. :). I can imagine traveling to different cities and audition can be quite tiring. After all, i found it hard moving between floors pushing a trolley in just one building here to audition different brands.

@kirti rana, I suggest you should add back excite x12 to your list. It is such a beauty. I'm still running it in though - picked them up just a couple of days back. The midrange is brilliantly detailed. Make sure you get the right cables though for audition. You don't want to be using those silver plated ones, they will sound lean and the richness in the midrange might be lost.
BTW, they dont need extremely good partnering to work well. For instance, a Denon DM-37 which is no more than 20-22 watts could make them sing reasonably well (better than i expected) and way better than the denon stock speakers. And remember the Denon micro with the stock speakers is not considered bad.

Dynaudio Excite X12 loudspeaker Page 2 | Stereophile.com

I frequently receive e-mails from readers who ask me to weigh the tradeoffs of the various speakers I've reviewed. With the Dynaudio Excite X12, there are no tradeoffs. It sets a high standard of excellence in every meaningful sonic parameter, whether in absolute terms or with respect to its price and size. Having heard so many excellent speakers in recent years, I thought it would be hard to find an affordable bookshelf model that would stand out from the pack. I was wrong. The Dynaudio Excite X12 has become my new benchmark for loudspeakers costing under $2000/pair.

In any case, good luck!

this threasd basically summarized what i was lookign for ! excellent work Kirti.

btw, your thoughts on Usher series? did you geta chance to demo them?

Hi friends...

Room Size = 12 x 10

Music Source = Desktop PC

Music Type = Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Dance, House, Trance, Techno. So good Bass is Important.

Budget = Upto Rs 50000-60000 + Separate Budget for Stereo Amp.

So kindly guide me towards a few Speakers that all the experts and other members here think will serve me well. Also kindly suggest a matching Stereo Amplifier.

I understand that only my ears can decide what is best however i would need a few recommendations to that i can start doing Demos.

Thanks to all.. ;-)

Gvenu in Gurgaon is planning to sell his Acoustic portrait floor stand speakers; I recommend you should audition that. Worth buying the pair. Just a suggestion though. Even I am planning to get those. Best of luck.

Hi Rana
I did respond to your query on the Usher S520 in Delhi. Meanwhile, the V-601 is also available with us, they are a much larger speaker than the S520 - volume wise and sound wise. They use the same tweeter used in the 6000 series line (just below the high end Dancer series).
The V series is not discontinued, very much a current model

cheers
Sridhar

yep wildrain,

excite x12 and also the dm 2/6 & 2/7 are still on my list. Also doing demos in different cities has been fun coz some cities dont have one brand and another dont have another so this way i can complete all speakers and it suits my work as well. I had to shift my focus to building my 5.1 HT setup which is now almost complete after which i shall be continuing this thread as i complete the list of speakers on my list to find a final pair... :)

hey buddy i'm glad that the thread was of use to you.... :) I'm yet to demo to the Ushers. I'll be doing them soon and surely post my experience back here. Best of luck with your purchase...!!

i'm glad that you enjoyed reading my journey.... I'm had to shift my attention to my 5.1 Ht setup for a while and that should be complete soon. Then i'll wind up the rest of the speakers on my list and make a final choice. Will surely update it for all here.

Thanks :)

rana,
Thanks, i am interested to know your stereo speaker journey and final setup. because i am also looking exactly same requirement as yours.Keep this thread alive and update all your findings like DAC/AMP/SPK of your experiences.(if possible along with prices )

now that my 5.1 setup is complete i can move my focus and attention back to finding the stereo pair....

I heard the following yesterday....

Monitor Audio BX2 + Audio Lab Stereo Amp

- the BX2 sounded very nice just as most of the reviews say... they had a large sound stage with a nice highs and good mids. The vocals were quite nice and the speakers had a very quick, agile & tight sound to them. They also had copious amounts of bass. Overall a very nice speaker.

Monitor Audio RX6 + Audio Lab Stereo Amp

- My aim is to get a bookshelf but the dealer did not have the RX1 so i demoed the RX6 to get an idea of the RX1

- The RX6 were a couple of notches higher than the BX2 in all aspects. It just took all of the things BX2 did and took it a few levels higher with much more detail. These are a very dynamic sounding speakers and i expect the RX1 to be similar in nature.

Both the MA speakers are very good with lot of detail, accurate timing and good amounts of bass.

But there has been no speaker which has made me feel and move my heart & emotions the way the PSB Synchrony 2 B did.... :)

So at this point in time the Top Picks & Most Probable Buys are....

1. PSB Synchrony Two B
2. PSB Image B6
3. Mezzo 1 or Mezzo 2

:)

Are you repeating PSB Image of your 5.1 setup for stereo speakers also.

Rana,

We demand pics of your 5.1 setup... :signthankspin:

Kittu

the speakers of my color choice will take about a week to be delivered... i have the sub already.

Would you like the pics of the sub in the meanwhile or would you like the entire 5.1 when it's all set up ?

Are you repeating PSB Image of your 5.1 setup for stereo speakers also.

i didn't follow your question .... are you asking if i'm gonna use the front left/right for stereo too or am i considering another pair of Image B6 as a stereo pair ?

regardless the 5.1 setup will be in the living hall and the stereo setup will be in my bedroom, actually my desk. in all likely hood i will be getting the psb synchrony 2 Bs and the Image B6 is 2nd best speaker that i liked after the synchrony's till now during the demos i did.

I was a bit confusing.

I meant are you buying another pair of Image B6 for your bedroom also? Considering that you have a 5.1 based on Image series in the living hall; Why are you not considering something else for your bedroom?

I am in the same position. I have decided for Image 5.1 in the Home Theater and for my bedroom I am going with Quads. Quads and PSB where what I liked the most amongst B&W, Monitor Audio, Mordaunt Short, Wharfedale, Polk and KEF.

i'm looking to mostly buy a pair of synchrony 2 B's. But Image B6 will be my second choice. however i'm yet to demo the complete shortlist of speakers before i make my final decision.

Why am i not considering something else for my bedroom ?

Because i love the PSB sound signature the most for movies and also for music.

So one point of view says get PSB for both HT & Stereo and you point of view is also correct which says choose one flavor for HT & a different for Stereo.

but i found myself to enjoy PSB for both so it makes sense to me to get PSB for both the setups but your experiences may vary and you could find different speakers brands better for different roles. Also the type/genre of music you listen to can play a huge factor in making a choice. I found the PSB's to be a quality all-rounder for all types of music.

I have read many people saying that they prefer some speaker for movies and a different speaker for music so the discussion does have some weight in it....
