Stereo Speakers for Rs 50000-60000

Kirti Bro.. Nice to hear about your Stereo setup..

But just one suggestion.. Pls dont play mp3 in a setup of 60,000.. :( :( :( Buy CDs or download FLAC. I feel sad about the speakers.. :(

some here and on other forums have suggested me to listen to Active Monitors since my setup will be besides my laptop on my desk so i went and demoed a few active monitors...

17. Dynaudio BM5A Mk ii

very smooth sounding and a very balanced speaker which did everything well. i liked it.

18. Dynaudio BM6A Mk ii

i liked the BM5A Mk ii more for some reason.

19. Adam A7x

The vocals were just superb and the imaging was beautiful... but for everything else i found them to be bright/forward. I want easy on the ears kind of speakers. But i have to say again the vocals were just delicious.....!!

20. Genelic 8030A

- had a more involving sound than the BM5A Mk ii with lesser bass. They made the BM5A Mk ii sound dull and boring. then the rep said listen to the 8040A.

21. Genelic 8040A

- had everything the 8030A had and also had better bass due to larger driver. They would be my top pick among active monitor. These also were the most expensive at almost twice the price of the 8030A.

However my experience with Active Monitors has not been very impressive. I kind of didn't like the sound of studio monitors for normal music listening. I'm now totally focusing on Hi-Fi speakers + Stereo Amp combination.

So at this point in time the Top Picks & Most Probable Buys are....

1. PSB Synchrony Two B
2. PSB Image B6
3. Mezzo 1 or Mezzo 2

more to follow... :)

Hehe , looks like the first two digits got jumbled somewhere

Synchrony 2B is a 'good' speaker, but ....... ain't worth 82 k. Its too much. Its my personal opinion, after giving it a hear.

Hi Rana,
I was going through your thread and got enriched. You have showed a praise-worthy patience and methodical approach in selecting your system.

Last Sunday I listened to PSB Synchrony Two B and PSB Image B5 pairing with my Leben valve inegrated amp. PSB synchrony Two B is really a good and smooth speaker with fuller sound and the sound signature is really addictable. It has decent bass but it's tweeter is a shade below my Usher BE-718 berrylium tweeter. The driver and size of the synchrony Two B or Imagine bookshelf will fit perfectly for a bed room.

I wanted to listen to PSB Imagine speaker also, but that day the Imagine speaker was not available. I am looking for a pair of speaker for my bed-room for playing with desktop PC as source and inegrated valve amp. The same speaker I may be using as side speakers for my 5.1 speaker in near future through AVR when watching movie using my Oppo BD-83. I think Imagine may be a good choice for the movie purpose, but for pure audio synchrony may be better.

Another probability (low cost option) which I am thinking is Violet 5.1 speaker set with its subwoofer replaced with some good one. I will save the AVR cost and also will not be troubled for connecting speaker wires running through the room. I have to listen violet speakers as 2 channel audio for working as my PC speaker. I don't look for the best sound quality in this set up, as I am getting the same in my drawing room using Ayon CDP, Leben Amp and Usher BE-718. My aim is primarily a clutter-free set up with fairly decent sound.

Sorry mate, I may be out of context a bit in your thread.

Hope you select a real good set of speaker and enjoy good quality music of loss-less format. Your profession helps you in coming accross various places, various cities, which will enable you to pick up good music collection CDs, vinyl etc. At the end of the day that's important.
Cheers

Hi Rana / Amit & other fellow members.

1) Is there a way by which we can directly connect a normal pc with inbuilt / integrated sound card ( that comes on intel motherboards) to AVR for stereo?

2) for movies can we store movies on computer HDD and can we pass the signal using Muti media players to the AVR ? and will it give same sound and picture quality as using a Media Player with external HDD?

Thanks for your answers in advance !

Regards,
Naren

Naren, this is not the right thread for your query!

But yes, you can connect your normal pc's audio out( 3.5mm mini stereo headphone jack) to your AVR using a 3.5mm to stereo RCA cable( popularly known as iPod cable/connector). Quality would not be the best in this method.

As for your video, you can connect your computer's VGA/HDMI/S-Video output using a corresponding cable to your TV.

TOO MUCH TECHNICALITY KILLS MUSIC
MUSIC IS COMING FROM DIFFERENT INSTRUMENTS AND EVERY PERSON HAS DIFFERENT VOICE QUALITY AND EARS.
HOW CAN 1 CLUB SO MANY REQUIREMENTS INTO SPEAKERS AND AMPS?
WHY SMALL JOURNEY OF LIFE IS DISCUSSED AT SUCH GREAT LENGTH.
BUY SOMETHING THAT SUITS TO U WHY SO MANY DOUBTS AND QUERIES BCOZ VARIETY IS ESSENCE OF LIFE .
IF U DON'T LIKE NEW ONE SELL IT TAKE ANOTHER ONE TO SUIT UR PSEUDO BRAIN AND EARS
TOO MUCH QUERY REGARDING AMP AND SPEAKERS WILL MAKE TOO COMPARTMENT
1) BRAIN -WILL KEPP THINKING OF FLAWS IN AMP AND SPEAKERS
2) MIND - WILL ALWAYS BE NOT SATISFIED

Hi Naren,
IAudio has replied to your queries already and he is quite expeienced in this forum. If you want to discuss more on this topics, you may open a separate thread. But for good music using PC you have to think for good sound card.

i'm glad you enjoyed it.... i've really enjoyed listening all these different beauties and will continue till i find the one... which at this point in time are the Synchrony 2Bs.

Thanks for sharing ur experience with the PSB's. I share your views about them being super smooth and a very addictable listen.

For your application the Violet 5.1 setup sounds like a excellent option as it is virtually clutter free with a lot of convinience. Do check it out to see if it fits what you need.

I'm quite keen on the Usher speakers as well. and had sent a email to ARN systems about it but they were not able to schedule a demo for me in delhi. I wonder if they have it available for demo in mumbai or hyderabad as i go there once a month and will try to fit it in my schedule.

i'm gonna look up the reviews on the Usher BE 718. Berrylium tweeter sounds interesting & yummy :) What kind of a sound signature do they have ?

Thanks :)

I havent heard the PSB series but heard the Ushers. They are very nice, detailed speakers whoch sound very natural to me. The BE 718 will probably come in the 1.1 lakh range while the X718 comes in the 55-60k range.

When I was looking for speakers, I found them undoubtedly the best in the price range for stereo.

Rana, Usher speakers are VFM all-rounder speaker with beautiful finish and craftmanship. The Tiny Dancer (BE-718) has very good Berrylium tweeter, they are quite immersive and lightening fast. The new version of Tiny Dancer has Diamond tweeter, but I have not listened to them and can not tell you the difference between older Berrylium tweeter and new Diamond tweeter. BE-718 is large bookshelf speaker and produce good bass compared to bookshelf speaker. Although they are front ported, but they require about 2.5-3 ft space in the rear to produce best sound. So for bedroom, they may not be a good choice. Instead, you may go for PSB, ProAc etc.

Another point I like to make here, BE-718 are current hungry speaker. They require good current (I am not meaning power here) for best sound. I have listened them pairing with various amps e.g. Jaton Operetta, Belcanto monoblock, Odyssy Khartago, Leben, Usher Power amp, Symphonic Line RG-10. Out of all the combinations, RG-10 was the top performer. RG-10 is a beauty..what an amp! But it costs INR 4 La plus for its top variant, which has phonostage also. But in pure vocal, specially Indian classical and Tagore songs I found Leben performed even better than RG-10. I think Sridhar (ARN) also has the same opinion.

So, if one select Usher BE-718, he should keep in mind to pair with a good amp, which should have capability to supply abundant current to sing the baby well.

Iaudio - I agree that i should not have posted my question in this thread, apologies... and Thanks for your response to my query ;-)

@rana_kirti
What is the enclosure type of Mezzo 1? I know the Mezzo 2 is front ported. I can't make it out from the pics available on-line.

@rana_kirti

I am not sure if you are in Mumbai. In case you are, do have a listen to the following Indian speakers: Lithos contra series in Bandra. You may google "lithos" to find out the address.
