If your streamer is in a room where your router is not, how do you ensure connectivity?

What are the options to for solid uninterrupted conectivity - wifi as well as wired.

I would like to know how members are handling this.

Appreciate the feedback.

For an uninterrupted connection I have my tp-link router connected via cat5e ethernet cable to the Allo Boss 2 player. Both devices are in different rooms.

By having a couple of holes drilled around an inch wide through room walls and routing the wires through.

I bought a BlueMe HD Bluetooth receiver. Which is running off a cheap Chinese 5V lpsu. It is feeding my dac, via optical. I stream music to it from my tab, via Bluetooth. And am extremely pleased with the sound quality :)

I am using a mesh router.
Its working very well, and am able to stream Qobuz 24/192 files without any issues. I have 3 units, and 2 are located in the rooms where the streamers are, and I have connected the streamer via cat5 cable.
Cheers,
Sid

In one of my rooms I use wifi extender with ethernet port. Even the old airport express adaptors can extend the wifi and give you a 100 mbps ethernet port

e.g.

I have plenty of the old Airport express. My wifi routers is upstairs. In my bedroom I use the above. Downstairs I have repurposed an old apple airport express to provide connectivity.

How is the streaming reception over wifi? Any comparison with hardwired LAN connection?

While lan is always better. These days with high speed fiber and future mesh it performs quite good already. For music wifi is good enough. For video if u hv lan option it would be preferred as it optimizes the bandwidth Speed.

Curious to know what improvements were noticed after changing the power supply on the router ?
Honestly, l didn't hear any difference. I did it just because I didn't want to use the supplied cheapo wall wart and possibly avoid any electrical grunge noise it may introduce.

Sid

I wonder which is better for other users/streamers. In my case (with CXN V2 streamer), whenever I’ve compared, I found Wi-fi gave better results. I sense a certain brightness/metallic glare in the sound with LAN cables (tried different budget brands), but with Wi-fi there’s no glare and the sound is calmer. I can’t say for sure if the clarity is better with the cable (it seems so… but can be an illusion due to the brightness/forwardness).

I wonder why? My guess is the cheap/budget LAN cables don’t have enough shielding and pick up interference from rest of the electrical circuitry and cables around. Any suggestions for well-shielded LAN cable that has worked well for any of you?

Hi Sachin , I use Blue Jeans LAN cables and they seem to work well for me. I prefer my entire set up to be hardwired as opposed to using wifi for streaming. Infact all my access points in all my rooms for the sake of wifi ( mobile / Laptop usage only ) are connected to the main router via fibre optic cables . It did take a bit of planning but then i could manage since we were moving to a new house. The SOtM ethernet cables also come highly recommended . At some point i might just upgrade to them.

Thanks @eastofthesun. One doubt though: Doesn’t that add two conversions: electric to optical and back between the router and the equipment? Also, can you point to any brands/buying links to optical Ethernet cables? I couldn’t find any. As for CAT cables, SotM cost as much as a budget streamer. Audioquest has a range, but the decent one - Cinnamon is at a more thinkable 15k on Amazon.

Also, if there is not much RF disturbance, Wifi might not be all that bad, especially as it doesn’t introduce power impurities from a commercial telco router into the system.

every device in my home works on WiFi with mesh routers. Using Mac mini —> DAC —> amplification. Works like a charm. I get speeds in excess of 400 mbps. Perfect for 4k TV and music. Have wired my home with LAN but never used it.

My gaming PC is wired. TV on wifi. No problems whatsoever streaming 4k HDR Atmos. I get the full 200 mbps on 5 ghz band. Router is below the TV.
