SubWoofer between 20k to 50k...?!?

well my research is leading to 3 names....

1. HSU VTF 2 MK 3 / HSU VTF 3 MK 3

2. SVS PC 12 NSD

3. BK Monolith.

Is the BK Monolith available in india.... ? Who's the dealor/Distributor ...? How does it match up to the HSU VTF 2/3 MK 3 & the SVS PC 12 NSD...?? Any one heard all 3 of these monsters...?!?

Any owner of these 3 Subs sharing their experiences....

guys a quick question.....

i got a 5 yr old yamaha rx v450 avr. I guess most of the subs are active and have their own amplifiers... right ?

so mostly any active sub will work with any avr...

I dont have to upgrade my AVR to be able to play a monster like a SVS PC 12 NSD or a HSU VTF 3 MK 3.... ?

or will upgrading to a more modern and powerful avr make a difference to the performance & sound quality coming out of the sub-woofer...?

If u are ok with used powered subs then you may please check with Cinnebals, they sell demo pieces after 1 yr or so, recently they were selling Jamo sub 550 etc at reasonable price.
Wait for AV expo at Pragati Maidan, where you can check the subs and decide.
I liked DALI sub very much but it cost nearly 40K.

I would suggest that you save the money to buy quality speakers. I bought the below sub and its a really great deal. Even after shipping it would probably cost less than 20k and will beat the pants of a 30-40k sub.

This was tested in santhol2's ht and beat the pants of the jamo sub300. The HSU/SVS/BK would be better but considering your current avr, I would think they would overpower the rest of the speakers.

Do you think a PC12 nsd or a hsu vtf2 mk 3 is a overkill...?

I'd mostly be using them with either a PSB Alpha Studio 5.1 or a Q Acoustics 2000 5.1

Would the PC12 nsd or a hsu vtf2 mk 3 be too much for above mentioned speakers ? Would it not blend with the speakers ? Do i need more expensive speakers to match these sub woofers ?

Or will these sub woofers work well with any 5.0 setup...???

I like B&Ws but, IMHO there subs are not worth money. I would consider Velodyne or REL or HSU all of them are great subs.

I bought the Deftechs personally. Although Deftech says the warranty is valis, practically repairs may be difficult, but they could send parts over for specific issues.

The subs that you are looking are quite good and are for keeps.

The 450 is if I am not mistaken will output 90w pc for 8ohm and practically will give close to 50/60 wpc for movies while the sub will output 250w. However, since you can adjust the gain for speakers and subs separately you can blend them for movies. Its only if you are planning to use them for music it might be too much.

Can't say about the AV expo, but when ever its on, u shud visit, ask for demo(s) for every sub available and decide.
I personally like DALI (forgot the model i asked for demo) and Jamo SUB 550, but you better check and decide for your self.
Dont compare with the price you would be getting on amazon, onecall, retrevo etc in USA.
Benefit for buying from India is that it wud be 220V & mind you, no one can bring powered sub for you from USA etc as it 1 powered sub weighs around 50lbs + & wud be 110V.

You can get a sub shipped for like 5-10k and you can always get a 110 to 220 V connector.

For a Price like that, and for less than 50k, you could get one of the best subs in the world; the Anthony Gallo sub. A very fine and crisp sounding sub. I have heard it. It is almost like the butt-kicker subs that are advertised all over.
It gives a lot of bass without sounding boomy.

I have a REL strata 5 sub for sale. I bought this 3 years ago to use with Magneplanar speakers I had then but I couldnt get them to integrate well.

I used it a total of maybe 10-12 hours. Ended up packing the sub thinking I would use it in another setup, but that never happened.

I checked with a courier company and they asked for Rs. 700 / kg and they do also have certain criteria for the box size too.
So Rs.700 X 25 kgs (approx powered sub's weight) = ....................

Which courier company did you check? There are many. The most expensive one may cost 14k for 20KG. However cheap ones may be available for just 7k or so.

Please let me know the courier company's name as i plan to buy powered sub in USA and get it couriered to Delhi.
It wud be weighing around 25 kgs
