Greetings all,

I am planning to upgrade my subwoofer, and have short-listed, Monitor Audio RS W12, Polk Audio DWS PRO 600, and Klipsch Synergy Sub-12. I am looking for a sub that is musical, and performs in HT as well (should shake my sofa :)).

With all the online reviews, MA seems to have respectable comments in both music and movies. MA is also a 5-star rated product on What-Hi. Klipsch has also good reviews when it comes to HT performance, but not sure how it would perform in music. And it looks like Polk Audio sub from the DSW series are new, and not many users of it around.

(However (and that's a big one) - the SVS subwoofer seems to be a sure winner, but unfortunately there are no dealers in Bangalore for SVS subs.)

Please suggest in your experience what would be the best of these three subs in both music and movies?

And are there any MA and Klipsch dealers in Bangalore?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Nagaraj

Hi:

First, welcome, have a great time.

IMO, the MA RSW12 will blow the other two out of the water comfortably. It's a solid performer for music/movies with great build quality. I guess, ARN Systems deals with MA and if you're lucky can get it cheap as it's an outgoing model.

:)

I would suggest another Sub to your list of audition i.e PSB Subsonic 6i which has a Mrp of 46K and is powerful enough to shake any sofa or foundation.

Being a Polk user I can say that Polk sub is a VFM product and is a cracker for movies but when it comes to music it will leave you with lot to desire.

Place the SUB behind your Sofa  pretty sure its gonna shake the sofa and lot of other things :D

Thanks Vinod and Ashish for your quick reply!

Could I know whether there are any PSB sub dealers in Bangalore.

Welcome,
MA is good choice for both(mov+music),Kilpch for mov.
Wharf SW250 is another option.
Think of Valodyne too.

Lakozy Audio Excellence is present in Bangalore and you can confirm the availiability of PSB from them. You can get in touch on this number +919980730408

Not sure of your budget.

There are good subs available in India.

HSU and SVS are being distributed by Audire.

Velodynes are very good but all depends upon your budget.

For klipsch, since they have taken over Jamo, the Jamo dealership Cinebels has also started stocking them.

@Sud98 - My budget is around Rs. 40K Not sure whether big guys like SVS and HSU can fit into my budget. Is Audire based in Bangalore?

Thanks,

Nagaraj

Now I think it is down to MA RS W12 and Klipsch sub-12, though I am more inclined towards MA.

I also found out that there are two REL dealers in Bangalore (Absolute Phase and ARN systems), but I think REL is know more to be musical. Does anyone have the experience of using a REL sub? How does it fare for movies? Does it have the low-end thump that MA or Klipsch might offer? Please also suggest whether REL has any model for around Rs 40k.

Perhaps, I will finally wind it down to REL Vs MA.

Thanks,

Nagaraj

The HSU vtf 1 should be in the 40k range I think.

Audire is based out of Coimbatore, their primary contact is present in the forum (I forgot his name but should be searchable)

The Velodyne CHT 12 might be also close to the 40k range as the 15 is in the 53k range, you can speak to odyssey in the forum(Arn systems)

RELs are going to be much more expensive, the last time I checked. The HSU vtf1 will probably the cheapest of the lost of specialised sub manufacturers.

There is a separate thread on musical subs but its better that you try it out so you get a better experience.

The movie subs tend to be cheaper and easier to test as you can check specific scenes and find out the effects, with the musical subs you would need to check with your fronts and see how they blend.

Guys I am a little confused too with subwoofers.
I have bought DALI Ikon 5 speaker set, it contains Ikon 6, Ikon 1 and vokal 2.
From what I read online, DALI Sub is the weakest link in the 5.1
There are many subs to consider, But I am confused which one would go best with the speakers I have. Listening to music will be purely stereo, so no woofer needed there.
However, there are few concert DVDs I have, for wihch the sub needs to match up. But either ways, for most part I am looking for movies first for Sub.
Budget,I'd like to stick to 30K, however I can add another 10K if the value-add is worth it.

Any suggestions?

Hi Nagraj,

Why don't you audition Sonodyne SLF200A (23K). Its is a 150 W RMS front firing subwoofer. I auditioned that last week.. It was Outstanding... I have heard Polk Audio DSW 500 & Jamo also in 30K range. I bet this beats both of them by miles....

It has a remote control, 2modes - Music & Movies. Music mode is the best for listening Stereo source.. Infact it is very beautiful......Movies are good too with the LFE. (.1) source. I haven't auditioned the MA sub that you have mentioned, but i like to recommend you this Subwoofer from Sonodyne Studio Monitors...

Listen to them if you can & share your experience...
