Subwoofer - Need advise please

Sandeep had also commented that Sealed box version would blend easily with the speakers. And that the sub would defy its size when it comes to performance

Personally and AFAIK, I have a few things to say about subs.
For drivers of 12" or more, sealed enclosures are preferred but for 10' or less ported ones are considered more suitable. Also, the larger the driver the better it is for absolutely LFE. Although all types of sub designs have their pros and cons, I would ideally prefer a 15" downfiring driver in a sealed box enclosure with the amp housed outside the cabinet. But then, a downfiring design means that you have to place it on high enough spikes as also live with the fact that the driver is exposed from below. If you choose to avoid that then you have to go in for a bandpass enclosure if you still want to retain the down-firing deployment. That, in turn necessitates porting the enclosure, somewhat like this.

What happened to the listening experience ?

Sorry.... too much of a delay. Big story.

The sub was intended to be an additional subwoofer in my existing 7.1 setup.
Day 1- Placement ....Audyssey ....and . I kept walking every now and then near the sub to check if it was actually connected.

I removed my previous sub played only the SVS ...still the same. My 100W Elac was sounding great but nothing from the new guy.

Day 2 - things were worse.. there was a popping sound from the SVS once I switched it on and then it died off. End of story.

Frantic calls to Sandeep & Sharad :sos:....mail exchanges ... lot of waiting.... and then got a replacement amp on Friday.

Tried reaching Audire for their technical help to fit the amp today but in vain.Took the courage to do it myself(pretty simple but still). Placed the sub in place and started playing again and :yahoo: WOW !

Played all my favourite demo scenes from U571, LOTR, Saving Private Ryan, etc. Unbelievable sound. I have to mention one part particularly. "Behka" from Ghajini - I had always been unhappy whenever I heard this song in my system coz I would end up relating it to my listening experience on the KEF Reference 207in stereo mode which was excellent(hard hitting). I played this song today in 2.1 mode in my system with the sub and it was an amazing.

Almost a month's wait but am happy today. Am not going to tell that this is the best sub ever. But at this price and for its size, it is a must listen.

I loved it and just maybe U will love it too...!
