Anyone using subwoofer with floorstanders?
Am considering Polk sub with speaker line inputs.
Would it be too much ?
I currently have kef q500 for stereo.
Room size 17 by 10 ft.
Music sounds very good, clear but I need more bass for some songs.
Any inputs please?

For your room size, a Floor standers should be able to fill the room easily....

Anyways, you can use a subwoofer with crossover on your AVR @ 60Hz.

till yesterday i thought a good floor standers(having JBL L112 and YAMAHA NS1000M with 12"woofers) are enough for normal rooms.but after listening sub woofer (sunfire truesub mk2) with my stereo speakrs, everything changed.
now i am not listening music with out the sub.

Definitly Adding a sub will improve the sound. 1. Your amp will do less work for the same amt of bass 2. You can position your speakers in right spot to improve imaging without worrying bass response 3.you will hear freq below 40 hz

If OP is going to use onkyo NR818 for driving floorstanders he may not always get the desired bass unless his FS has high sensitivity (not Q500) unless he is willing to buy a dedicated amp with enough power to get bass out of his speakers. So it will depend on what exact combination is going to be used whether a sub is required or not.

it will depend on the type of music you listen to and also what you prefer. best way is to audition with a sub in your room on your setup

An addition to my earlier post -

In a quest to add a subwoofer to my HT system, I tried connecting them to my present stereo system too (which consists of only a pair of bookshelves).

A lot of subwoofers somehow made the midrange sound terrible. I however did tap my feet to various 'disco' kind of songs where the subwoofer enhanced the mid-bass region. With subwoofers (two connected at the same time) turned to really low volume and at about 50Hz (for crossover), I was able to get some of the grandeur of large orchestral works.

I am planning to buy two subs now for my HT but for my stereo, I am still undecided. I like the midrange as it is now.

As mentioned by fellow members, you would perhaps require a dedicated amp for the floor standers, it would be advisable first to audition with a sub. Use your JamoD600 sub in the bedroom and check if it makes any huge difference, perhaps then you can take a calculative call. All the best
