Hi all,

I have my current HT setup for 5.1 with a receiver supporting DOLBY ATMOS and DTS:X (5.1.2). Now planning to add ATMOS speakers to the current setup. Albeit I have false ceiling I don't have the concealed wiring provision for ceiling speakers. Hence it's ruled out.

I am thinking of going for the following options; I would need your suggestion from your experience as to how it would sound for both the options as well as which will be better over the other. Following is my plan about the ATMOS speakers.

  • Go for ATMOS up firing speakers from ELAC Debut A4 or NHT ATMOS Mini Add-On Speakers (KEF is over the budget & Onkyo ATMOS is not all that impressive). It is proven to really create ATMOS sound stage but being under estimated as compared to the ceiling speakers

  • YAMAHA AVR supports front height speakers. But which speakers would do better in this setup?
In general, ATMOS speakers are meant to be narrow dispersion drives. In the case of front height speakers, how would it sound? Also, can you suggest brands that would work well for ATMOS? I have few best ATMOS BluRay movies which are very impressive but I couldn't enjoy its complete sound without ATMOS speakers. Appreciate your suggestions.

Regards,
Sriram

You can consider to bring the wires along the walls with external casing..

If front heights, you can consider any satellite speaker, with wallmount & tilt capability..

One more post for an alternate speaker location than front heights - http://www.hifivision.com/home-theater/67752-dolby-atmos-upfiring-modules.html#post745947

Not sure if you have auditioned the Onkyo Atmos modules. I am using the same modules, Onkyo skh-410, in my 5.1.2 atmos set-up and pretty much satisfied with with same. Love to buy Kef, but they are way over budget.

Yes, I was inquiring about ONKYO Atmos speakers from one of the sellers; he suggested not to go for it from his selling experience. I personally don't have audition experience yet.

I will have to audition it may be..
