suggestions needed....!

Hi guys,

I am having fenda brand, model f6000 5.1 speaker system with powered sub-woofer having dolby prologic II option. That is so far so good with my old T.V., I have changed my old tv to LED 3D. Now i'm planning to buy Yamaha AV Receiver RX-V473 model.

My question is can I connect and use my existing F6000 5.1 speaker system with Yamaha AV Receiver.

I dont see y not... I havent really heard the speakers u are talking about but if u are happy with the sound already a Yamaha AVR will only help in enhancing it further... Pls try using the new AVR with ur existing speakers... You might end up pleasantly surprised... If u are not happy then u can try upgrading in phases,like upgrading to better towers in the front then a Better center then maybe a better sub... But pls dont do it all at once... One more suggestion I will like to add is to take ur speker system(I am assuming its not very heavy) & using it to demo diff AVRs(Yamaha,Denon, Harmon kardon,Onkyo etc)... That will help u make a more informed decision...

looks like the cross over/power output for the speakers are controlled by the sub. You might end up blowing your speakers if you dont care of setting the cross over correctly and/or pumping up too much volume from an AVR.

yes...speakers are controlled by the powered (active) sub-woofer. But, what i'm thinking is I connect speakers to receiver and then subwoofer pin to receiver's sub-out option. Is it right way to connect?

More over i have not any idea about what is cross over...?

And one more point : when i contacted customer care of FENDA, manufacture of F6000 speakers, i received the following input :

"F6000 has an active woofer.it need not be routed through an amplifier.you can connect your speaker directly to the LED tv or your set top box through auxiliary cables"

When i read a FAQ's in yamaha website : they are recommending to connect active subwoofer to receiver.

can u elaborate?

You can use your existing speaker system. But do not increase the volume above a particular limit to avoid damage to amp as well as speakers.

if have not bought the yamaha.use your present speakers system.if unsatisfied.proceed.
you can use the 5 speakers with yamaha but as baiju rightly said with low volume.
cannot use the sub+amp set.well can be used,a diy surgery is needed.

At present i'm unable to use these speakers with my LG TV. As there is no optical connection in subwoofer.

checked your speaker specs.directly plug the red and white out of TV/or from stb(better sound) into red and white in of sub and centre marked in sub+amp box.
or into two fronts marked.
also you can buy a 2 channel to 5 channel converter and happily use your present speakers system ever after.in fact if this spaker has DD pro logic option it has it in itself.2 in---2 to 6---6 out.
in that case plug yopur red and white outs into 2 channel in of the sub+amp box
if serous ht system is needed please please proceed.
dont just buy if you think cant use the present....since you can use it.

Yes this will work. Connect the satellite speakers to the avr and avr subwoofer pre out to the sub in of the subwoofer. I had tried this with my denon 1612 and a john barrel 5.1 system. As I said before, do not increase the volume above a safe limit. There is option in the avr to limit the maximum volume.

Baiju has answered your query. In addition to that I will also set the cross over for the satellites to around 120 hz to minimize damage to the speakers. This job was done earlier by the sub which has to be taken care by the AVR now. Like Baiju said dont turn up the volume too much.

What they meant is that you dont need a separate amplifier/power block for the sub. There are passive subs and active subs. This one that you have is active. It has inbuilt amplifier. The connection that you mentioned is correct. i.e. Sub-out from receiver to sub-input in the subwoofer module.

What I did with My F&D::
Front & Sats had 4 ohm driver (each)
Center has two 8 ohm drivers in parallel
I moved two 8 ohms drivers in both fronts & installed the two (front) 4 ohm drivers in series as Center Channel. Now effective Impedence is 8 ohms in all 3 speakers ( Fronts & Center). Discarded Sats...got 2 new JBL control one speakers. Maintained same capacitor (4.9 mF) in all 3 speakers...I think crossover is 8KHz..But I do not see any frequency hole.

F&D is a solid performer with my RX-V 471. I got a Polk Audio SW (PSW-110)...System is Rocking

And I dont see any issues in raising volume...
