Yes, this is because they use lesser glass elements in their construction hence lesser distortion.
Similarly zoom lenses generally will need more moving glass elements in order to adjust to the varying focal lengths. Here flexibility is achieved but at the cost of distortion added by the additional glass elements.

This is one of the reason a simple 50mm lens costing just 5k is considered sharper than many high end variable focal length lenses costing multiple times more

thats the whole catch even the hs20 and hx100v you can manually control zoom. that is more of a barrel twist and turn.. however the same does not goes with the focus ring.. its fly-by-wire. looks like mechanical but isin't..

so its just what camera does electronically is being done manually and electronically.. thats being more stupid so i let the camera do it.. lolz
