Just got a mail from Sandeep at Audire India apparently they have started to stock SVSound speakers and Subs!

Im waiting to save up some moolah so that I can get my hands on two PC13 Ultras ,set half of my city running looking for air raid shelters thinking the Japs are back :yahoo:
Those babys are seriously crazy, they fire like pile drivers and a friend and I were testing it in his ground floor HT room,we managed to set off CAR ALARMS! that right! Car alarms in the lot outside.

already ordered the PC12-NSD.
They have introductory offer running for first 100 customers.
10% of the "going to be mrp" plus free shipping!
grab it while you can!!

I agree SVS makes some of the best VFM subwoofers - at-least for movies - If money is no object then JL audio is the best IMO. Regardless I have a PC12+ but I plan to supplement it with another offering from SVS and will plan to order one soon. Not only that - Tom (I think he is the V of SVS) is a great guy to talk to and deal with. In the early days when SVS was introduced in the US he was very patient and had excellent customer relations. Hope the India dealer does the same. BTW Is there a price list available?
Cheers
Sid

Is the SVS SB10 a good sub for music only?

I need fast transient response as i listen to psytrance which has a very fast bass beat so basically there should be no boom, lagging of sound. It should be precise and tight, musical bass which should be able to complement the main speakers bass line speed.

Other options in similar price range would be a HSU ported model or BK XLS200. But with psytrance ive noticed 90% of the time the port makes the bass a little slow as compared to the main speakers so leaning towards a sealed subwoofer.

The sb10 offer looks tempting please advice guys .... would the sb 10 suit my purpose well ?

TIA

Even I'm looking out for a Musical Sub.

Mr.Sandeep from Audire quoted Rs 1,17,900/- for the SVS SB 13 Plus:sad:

Which sealed sub from SVS will be best for Music?

Good question. Even I'm looking for some good replies.

bump
somebody wanna pitch in with some advice?
I can barely find any reviews on the SB10-NSD ..... Will have to take the plunge blindly owing to svs company reputation of making good subwoofers in the past. I believe it uses the same aluminium cone driver as the PB10-NSD with a Sledge 400D Amplifier driving it.

IMO, Quotations seems to be high. I hope we shall save our money through direct factory deal, shipping is the risk factor in this route. BTW, SVS upgraded some models with DSP amp, Are these quotes for DSP or Old amp?

IMO Sealed would be better for music, especially for Psy,as the transients are better in a sealed design,I listen to the same sort of music and I have not come across a ported sub that can keep up with a 155bpm Bizzare Contact track.

I have found that in sealed designs Group delay plots are better and there is no port to act as a resonant device to produce the effect of slow bass.It doesn't go very deep tho.But punchy it will be.

Infact you might also want to consider a ProAudio sub, since they mostly use drivers that have much stiffer suspensions and surrounds and usually a ported design, the driver choice somewhat negates the disadvantages of using a port.]

I would go with Sealed for music ,when buying a home audio type sub.

If you want all the reasons why transients are better in a sealed sub let me know,I will have to dig out the old books and start quoting.

@Adhiraj:Thanks for the info, i have the same theory about the port making the bass sound a little slower which is not good for music where accuracy is key but explosions etc. in movies could sound more deeper.Looks like sealed is the way to go.But ya do dig up the info when you get time ... would be a good read.

I have read a lot of reviews on how hsu subwoofers are considered more musical as they blend very well with the mains. I think the reason is because hsu woofers use a 24 dB/Oct crossover.

SVS doesn't state which they use 12 or 24 dB/Oct. Does anyone know ?

I have read that 12 dB/Oct suits movies better whereas 24 dB/Oct suits music better. Is that accurate information ?

Another big question is can i trust SVS past track record and take a blind plunge on the SB10-NSD which is a very new model so has zero reviews online as of now ?

Hi,

Thanks for that nice info. As per the list price, seems I can afford with PC12-NSD. BTW, what difference in performance for Box vs Cylindrical. Moreover, the power output is not mentioned in site for the same.

My usage Movies:70% Music:30%, room size: 14.6ft(w) x 21.6ft(L) x 10ft (h) - So will this model be suitable?

Edit: Can you also list the price for PB12-NSD pls?

Hello Mate,

No problem at all, my pleasure. The prices are from the SVS brochure that Audire provided.

It was exactly the same confusion I was in.. box or cylinder.. from what I have been told.. cylinders are much better for movies.. for me, the sub is ONLY for movies. For music, I am strictly a 2.0 guy.

For your room size, I would suggest you to go for PC12 NSD, if you dont feel its enough for you... you can always add another PC12-NSD. I ve found a lot of guys online who have done the same. 1 PC12-NSDs are supposed to be better than 1 PC12-Plus.

As for the PB12-NSD, they are soon to be discontinued and hence not going to be available with Audire.

Guys, SVS SB10 is only scheduled to come out first quarter next year .... which explains why there is barely any technical information on it.

Guess im just going to wait and see ..... I think the BK XLS200 works out cheaper even if i import it from uk. I wonder how these two subs compare in musicality.

Hi,

Sorry my net connection was down for a day and was not able to update the same in the forum.

I had contacted Audire and they given me specs & other details. The PC12-NSD is a 400W new Sledge DSP Amp design and as you said the PB12-NSD is phased out and will no longer be available in the product range.

Further to their mail, I had enquired their suggestion and also demo between the SB12-NSD and PC-12 NSD. But, the product is not available for demo and only for sale. I had also asked if they can refer any customers who had purchased the subs so that they can share their experience with me.

Iam yet to get reply from them, meanwhile if you or any of our members have experienced these subs, would love to hear from you all.

EDIT: I have received reply from Audire and they say that they have personally done the audition at SVS and found to be a great sub. Also, based on my room size & usage the SB12-NSD should match well.

Yours comments pls...

Hi guys,

Pls see my earlier post, I just want advise from you all. As my HT room is not yet complete due to civil work delay. It would take atleast 6 months worst case. In this scenario, is it advisable to buy the SVS sub now since Audire is offering at discounted price or wait once my HT room is ready.

Also, pls suggest me between SB12-NSD and PC12-NSD.

Your immediate response would be very helpful as the time is running out at Audire.

Hello mate,
My HT is also not ready yet, i still went ahead and ordered myself a PC12.

It really came down to Sealed vs Ported for me. I am buying the sub for movies only as i am strictly 2.0 when it comes to movies. ofcourse, i did not get to audition them but went ahead based on online reviews.

The reason i did not wait for the ht to be ready is because of both the 10% discount and free shipping (which itself goes upto 4k)

Hope it helps, good luck!

Seeing the Green signal, I am tempted to order PC12-NSD for me too. Placing the order as I type these...
