In this interview Ilayaraja mentioned few of his favorite songs.
This one is, 'En kanmani, un kadhali' ( என் கண்மணி, உன் காதலி) composed on Western music's counter point method.

'Yethir Neechal' ( Swimming against the current), a nice movie directed by K. Balachandar. Excellent storyline, great acting by Nagesh, Muthuraman, Manorama, Srikanth, Sowkar Janaki, and jeyanthi. Lovely songs. Music by 'Melody king' V. Kumar.
