Hi,
Recently picked up a Tannoy III LZ monitor gold 10" with custom made cabinets.
Both drivers are reconed....the crossover is locally made.
Clear highs, bass seems to be low.
Thought of replacing the crossovers.
Tannoy Club .........any contacts in Bangalore who can assemble the crossovers...

Thx in advnace.

I'm wondering how changing the crossover will improve bass, as it is only going to be a low pass filter. Any reason you narrowed down the crossover to be the problem.

he said its a local, not stock crossover, so a properly designed one should help with the freq response
I agree with the local part, but unless it has a bunch of badly designed notch filters a simple low pass inductor will not affect the bottom end response. Low frequency response it going to be affected more by the "custom cabinets" and the fact that the speakers were "reconed" which would have even altered the speakers T/S parameters. Or maybe the high just need to be attenuated. Which is why I was curious about how the crossover was narrowed down as the key pain point.

thx guys....
This is a half finished DIY project by the previous owner.
He advised to change the crossover........due to the same reason I have mentioned...
The quality of the cabs are good, measuring 14x16x36..

Hi,
Are these driver's reconed with original kit parts ?

You will never get the tonal quality using local recone parts. Crossovers comes next.
It is necessary to use authentic parts to stick to the original tone. Then it's worthwhile tweeking around with the crossover design's.

You must redo the cones with original replacement cones. Then look at the crossovers. Tannoy Monitor Gold crossovers are the most complex, unlike normal crossovers. They have an autoformer coil for HF and a notch filter and so on. Check for Monitor Gold crossover prices on the E*bay. They are pretty steep. Not for no reason.

Without the original crossover or a replica of the original crossovers made by guys like mainlytannoy on bay, the speakers will not be able to perform.

Regards

Original cab designed by Tannoy for these drivers is smaller infinitely sealed baffle type. Troels Grosven has designed a improved crossover. Schematic is available on his site. You can also take the active x-over route. What has been replaced in reconing? Complete cone with spider and coils or only the surrounds?

Regards
