Tannoy MercuryV4.

Thanks Milestoneseeker!
That was a very reassuring post you made there. :clapping: I had read elsewhere to the tune that Made in China label just took its toll on the Paradigm Monitor series. Maybe its the Indian in him/us that makes us averse to anything to do with China. Nothing derogatory either to chines or indians meant there. Where did you audition them? and when are you going to audition them again. Please keep us posted. If they are still good I may not have to hunt for 6s at the dealers. And price factor any change?
Thanks again

Assurances are always nice (I know, as I keep asking for them in the forum too ;)) but as they say, trust your own ears. As for the China label, let's face it, most of the speaker brands are being manufactured in China. The reliability aspect is an open question though and I can only hope the QCs remain the same, irrespective of where their factory stands.

I auditioned the Series 7 here in Bangalore. I am hoping to close my own hunt for FS speakers in this month so hope to demo them the coming weekend. Will keep you posted.

Cheers
Rishi

Dear milestone,

Could you tell us which model you auditioned? Were they M7 or M9 or M11?

Paritosh,

They were Monitor 7. I am also looking to audition Monitor 9 but the shop is constrained for space and wanted my preference. I asked for M7 as a priority.

What's the price they quote?

I've heard that, M9V7 is a good VFM product rather than M7V7 as compared to their older counterparts.

M7S7 retail at MRP of 48k and you can typically get a price of 42K post haggling. M9S7 is 60k if I remember and one can potentially get them for 52K. Hence my plans to audition the M9S7 too as they too fall in my budget. However, yet to hear them so can't comment on the VFM aspect. However, post my PSB T5 inputs where I realized my 1911 may be under equipped to handle them, I want to make sure that 1911 is up to the mark for M9s. In fact, would love to hear from fellow forum members on M9 as not many reviews on these FS.

Thanks for updating the price factor. I hope the performance too unaltered as the price.
I use a 1909, which is power wise equal-ant to 1911, and am waiting for your audition and judgement. So far as M9 older version are concerned I remember seeing a long thread where it was adjudged as the best. Right now as I am in a hurry I am unable to search for it. May be later

Hello brothers, I am still to decide on which FS to buy. Has milestoneseeker auditioned the PM 9s. Somebody suggested me to have a look at PSB Image or Alpha series. I just want speakers which sound natural and neutral. I hope to end my search this month. Btw can anyone suggest me from Paradigm, Monitor Audio, PSB, Polk, Sonodyne..............?

Hi bud,

I was hoping to audition M9s this weekend but it seems the dealer will have them only by next Tuesday.

You could have surely considered PSB's if you are looking for neutral speakers. I have listened to Image T5 and T6, both. Lovely neutral speakers with a damn good bass extension. I was toying with T5s as T6 are beyond my budget. T5 retails at 59k while T6 retails at 76k. However, I was advised that my 1911 will not be able to make T5 sing well enough. I googled up that bit and I saw similar advise on other forums too. So dropped the plan. I guess you would run into the same problem with your 1909.

Check the Alpha series but I have not heard them so can't comment. From Paradigm, MA, PSB, Polk and Sonodyne, I would pick up Paradigm a VFM offering for music. PSB and MA will be more expensive than Paradigm

Yes Praholla I maintain that NAD326BEE will compliment PSB very well as NAD as a warm signature and PSB has a bright sound.

Hello
Too bad you have to further wait till Tuesday for auditioning M9s. When I called Lakozy Mumbai one Pramod advised me to go for Alpha. How are Tannoy Mv4s (LOL this thread is named after them). When I contacted Bangalore dealer he said that he has Paradigm Monitor 7 v6 for selling. Should I contemplate that or should I go for PSB B6 put on sale by a forum member? My room size is 14'/14'
Thanks

I know the feeling of thread starting with some brands in mind and the final debate being between some other brands :) My own FS speaker search thread is going that route.

The only time I heard Tannoy Mv4 was when I first did my parallel audition with Monitor 7 v6. At that time, switching between the M7s and Tannoy's made the M7s sound much better. I found Tannoy's to be more laid back than Paradigms. That is not my preferred sound.

I have not heard the PSB B6 but a fellow member, s_sachin, bought those recently. However, he was on the lookout for BS only so not sure if he can't comment on B6 vs M7 v6. But, personal opinion is that PSBs sound nice :)

Hi All,

This is my first post - i am looking for FS Speaker and shortlisted Tannoy MV4 and MS M6. I have taken the audition of both the speakers.
MS M6 with CS 650A - AMP Result was good, bass, vocal and mid for FS on 35K this was good speaker i felt.
Tannoy MV4 with Denon and Maranz - AVR - Felt good with Denon AVR (NEW AVR with Airplay) Felt ok kind of very dim with Maranz.
Bottom line i was not able to get side by side comparison on this and source was different, so i would like some input from member who owns this. looking forward for your response. Thanks in advance..... :)

I had auditioned Tannoy Mercury V4 (30k) and Monitor Audio M4 (25k) & M6 (35k). I liked both sets of speakers, for stereo music, but settled for M6. However, my decision was more based on the fact that I had very little flexibility in my room for the speaker placement and could have only 8-10 inches gap between the wall and the speakers and felt MA M6 was better suited for that kind of room as it has the bass reflex ports both in the front and rear, while the Tannoy V4 had the port only at the back.

Thanks for the revert dear :) Hope you are using the MA M6 for stereo set up, if yes please let me know on what AMP MA M6 is driven with..... what is the distance between the speaker your are maintaining, i would be able to maintain about 5 to 6 feet according to my living room condition.

I dont have a stereo amp, I use a Denon AVR (1911) and use these speakers only for music with the AVR in stereo (2-channel) mode. I have the speakers spaced about 7 feet apart from each other and with just about 10 inches gap between each speaker and the wall. You can see my simple setup in the below picasa album:

Praholla, please don't take your decision to buy floor standing speakers in isolation. It's all about synergy between Amp & Speaker. Nad is a warm amp and you MUST have a bright speaker like Monitor Audio, Quad, PSB.

harbuu,(hope you meant MA M6 when you wrote MS M6) saumitra, heliumflight. It's nice of you to have pitched in with your opinions. Now I have to zero in amongst
MA M6 35k
Tannoy Mercury V4 36k,
Paradigm Monitor 7v7 48k,
PSB Alpha T1 33k or T5 59k,
Polk RTi A7 56k
All MRPs. Have not auditioned any of these
My present setup is Denon AVR 1909, Stereo Amps Norge Gold & NAD 326BEE, AC Ryan HD DVR, Polk RTi A1, L/R & Surrounds, CSi A4,PSW 110 in a room of 14'/14'
I need the FS for stereo setup and budget 40k (May stretch a little)
Suggestions opinions are welcome

@praholla,

Good to see you have a firm list in mind. However, pardon me for stirring up the list at this moment ... do check out KEF Q500 and Energy CF-50. Both are bright just like rest of the speakers in your list and you might like their signature too. CF-50 will be >50k post discounts. But then, so will be the case for T5 and RTi A7 in your list.

Monitor 7 can be had for ~41k while KEF Q500 will be ~44-45k post discounts.

For a tight area in terms of FS placements, CF-50 has the advantage of being front-ported while Q500 is fully enclosed so can be kept much closer to walls without becoming boomy.

And as mentioned earlier, do check if 1909 will be sufficient to do justice to PSB T5.

Do not go by what hi-fi or avmax reviews. ...Most magazines never rate any product negative....

Hi Kittu,

Here we are not discussing the absolute rating of one product but the comparative rating of a number of products in a particular price band. Going by your rationale, reviewers are likely to rate the comparatively more expensive product higher. But here the reverse is the case, with the cheaper product getting the highest rating. Our inherent prejudices against British duplicity are on rather weak ground here and it may not really be a case of perfidious Albion.

Regards.
