Tape deck to pathos TT

Hello Friends. A friend of mine is trying to connect his Teac cassette deck to Pathos TT. He says the audio output is very low. I have tried playing the deck through my Sansui AV receiver in aux and tape in ports and it plays well. He has tried all three aux ports in Pathos but the result is same.
does it require a preamp to play the tape deck. or am I missing out something.
