Hello,

I want to know if there is any substantial difference in the Tata Sky HD+ STB, that I bought in Nov 2010 and the one they are offering now ?

The reason to find this is becasue I am moving house and the current connection is in my landlord's name.

- My landlord provided me the standard Tata Sky settop box back in 2009, however when HD was launched, I got that upgraded to HD+ STB. I paid for the new STB connection, but the connection stayed in my landlord's name.
- Now Tata Sky guys are telling me that they can not change the name on the connection. I am moving house and will have to take a new connection at the new house.
- I have alot of recordings of sprots events and kids movies that my kids love on the current STB (HD+) and I don't want to loose these.
- If there is no substantail difference in the new and old box, I will carry my STB with me, and will leave the old standard STB (that my landlord provided earlier) in the house so that he can give that to the new tenant.

-- My questions are
1. the main difference in the Tata Sky HD+ STB, that I bought in Nov 2010 and the one they are offering now.
2. Will my current STB (HD+) work with my new connection if I take this with me.
3. Will the old (Standard type) STB work with the card that is currently installed in my HD+ box so that my landlord does not have any problem.

Would appreciate the responses..

Cheers

The moment you switch your existing TS+HD onto a new smart card your earlier recordings will be lost. The recordings are encrypted with a key in the smart card/subscriber id.

So if you want to take the box with recordings intact you need to shift your landlord's connection with you. Get him a new standard TS connection/smart card and activate it on his earlier standard STB. You can change the name of the registered customer, have done that myself so it should not be a challenge.

As per my knowledge, TS launched Tata Sky+ HD in Mar 2011.
How did you get it in Nov 2010

There is no difference in the Tata Sky+ HD STB they offered from Mar 2011 onwards and the current ones (price increased)

My bad.. guess I got my HD TV around Nov.. and the HD STB came little after that.. may be mar 2011 only..

hmmm.. has someone tested this ? I thought, it is stored in the HDD so will be accessible with the new smart card.. : (.. not lucky here..

I tried calling up the Tata Sky guys, they told me that they don't change the name of he registered user now.. I will try again.. When did you get this done ? recently ?

Cheers.

we cannot copy the recordings and ofcourse there is no difference in the Setup boxes.. may be the design changes.. bt the software is automatically upgraded time to time and is applicable for all the setupboxes.. i believe u cant shift the setup box to your new location and make neccessary arrangement to the landlord... provided he doesnt have any objection..

I got my HD settop box shifted to the new house yesterday. But it will always stay in my landlord's name.. Tata Sky guys refused to change the name. I will get a new SD settop box for my previous landlord. :).. Thanks for suggestion,.
