"tata sky hd" pics and reviews

Ok, so finally got the hd box installed. some feedback after about an hour of viewing.

I am not overtly impressed with the HD channels. While they are big improvement over the rest of the SD packs, on their own, the hd channels are not what i was expecting.

I had seen the HD channels in US. NBA games(720p???) in my friends home. i guess it is some 50 inch plasma. The resolution was really great. Recently watched football WC, streamed from US, in my office. On my 22inch dell monitor. The resolution and the sharpness was amazing.

I don't thing the tata sky hd channels are that impressive. nevertheless they are much much better than sd.

The natgeo promos which they telecast in between the programs are impressive. much better than the program it self.

But then this could also be an issue with my 3 year old 32inch samsung lcd or may be it is the compression.

Also, the blacks are better, even in SD.

And, the navigation has gone for a toss, or may be i am yet to get a hang of it. Older one was much better.

There might be little issue with the LCD as well,I have a full hd LED and i can recollect that the Clarity and the sharpness including the quality is just little short of the Promo videos of HD running in Showrooms when yu go to buy them, that too because its 1080i resolution and not 1080p.

Not all programs are shot on HD,they upconvert them and show you on HD channels which might be the possible cause of the difference you mentioned, besides you can check the difference in Star plus HD and natgeo or discovery HD.Star plus lags behind.

Navigation front i guess this ones neat and the shades of dark is welcome instead of the blue which i personaly hate.

Only con i feel is the limitation of adding endless channels to your favourite list!

Rest its all good and consistent, with notable difference in sound surround when it comes to HD channels v/s Normal ones.

And yes i forgot to mention the the big TATA SKY LOGO that comes on the left lower side of the banner that pops when yu change the channels although yu can choose the time for which it can be displayed before it disappears[min 1sec].

Its little hard to browse channels in any STB/HD box that i have come across,Little too clustered and small letters is something thats irritating,I loved my local STB which use to display channels in stacks with Genre in a neat and simple layout.

Anyways you can blame the competiton for this, more the competiton, more they are trying to woo the customers with flashy layouts at the cost of usability.Even a dumb guy can understand what is user friendly and what is not.Anyways cant blame TATA completely for that, for they have a joint venture with the SKY networks.

I also have Tata Sky HD Sony Bravia TV but when I tyry to see in DEvice List of HDMI it says no supported device found. Why it is so whereas on your Screenshots, I clearly see Tata Sky HD in HDMI 2.

My Tatasky HD is connected to HDMI 1.

Hi mate,I have edited the label HDMI 2 to TATA SKY HD,its not by default. You can also do the same by going to the main menu and following the procedure as mentioned in the pics below.

And you are done bingo!
I got to know of this pretty late coz all this while i was busy fiddling with the other functions.

Currently am using my Intex subwoofer minus the 5 speakers,And with the audio out connected to the woofer all my content wiz PC,BD player,HD BOX [thorugh 3.5mm jack behind the LED to the Sub woofer] audio gets filtered by the LED and i am enjoying pretty neat sound from the clear sounding speakers of the LED [S-force surround] with good bass from the intex.

INTEX speakers sound dumb now.

My HD box arrived yesterday, and I can only say it beats my expectations in most respects. Nat Geo HD and Discovery HD world look great, and even SD channels look better from this box than from my old SD box - I can clearly see better black levels. For some reason some SD channels display better than others - BBC Entertainment for example is of excellent quality.

The only downside is a small usability issue - you cannot move back and forth between your favourite channels and have to keep pressing the FAV button to move in a single direction. And of course the Tata Sky logo is a significant burn-in threat to my plasma TV.

I can't wait to see the world cup in HD, and hopefully a few HD movie channels!

Well, dunno, unless we open the box and look inside from the outside, from the appearance, the manufacturer details and the packing is the same as the old box that was being sold, can you check the firmware on the box and see what it says, that may give a picture as if this box is using the same older firmware or the new one.

Yes,they are givin only one month subscription, anyways i was not interested in monthly recharges,so paid whole year rent and saved some Rs 900 as an initial mega pack yearly offer.Comes down to Rs 275 per month.[And yes it includes Gold pack i.e for HD]

Another great news is that some 50 HD channels are to be added soon before the World cup, also the Tata sky hd plus will be coming to market, how soon?
Well thats only time is gonna reveal!
Hi Abyshines,
Is this special offer. I checked the website and it says yearly subscription fee is Rs6000 which comes to Rs500 per month. If subscription comes to Rs275 even I am interested in it. Can you let me know details of the offer you got.

Regards,

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
