Tatasky HD activation

ok let us stop on this as of now.
i called again Tatasky. The rule is simple. If u have a coupon going to expire shortly, just call up tatasky customer care and register your coupon. Once u register the expiry does not matter because the assurance from tata sky is " Sir since u have registered with us by calling and informing us, we will make sure tata sky is installed before expiry date".
My question " waht if u miss "
answer : Its ok sir we will still do it. dont worry.

All in all, i am happy with the responses atleast.

Yesterday ( june 30th ) was the deadline for the Tatasky HD installation.
Oh yah, the guys came late in the evening. Tatasky is installed. Initial impression is that some channels are good and some are ok.
Thanks all for the feedbacks/info. i will close this thread as the work is done.

Congratulations. At last a relief to all of us.:D

I got tata sky hd + installed on 1st july. It took just next day to install and activate so that was fast.
* Recording feature is great i'm able to set recording while at work
1. SD channels are ok
2. HD channels are great to watch i wish all channels are in HD :)
3. Remote sucks
4. favorite button or function is nuisance ( i miss my old cable connection here where i used to store my channels where i want to ).
5. there is slight jitter or break in some channels for milliseconds no issues but it still disturbs me
6. My STB shows 50% signal strength and 100 % quality ( may be that's why the jitter ?). :indifferent14: we have common dish in our society.
7. While a program was recording , i was watching another recorded program, at that time something went wrong while i was able to forward rewind pause, play button did not function. i had to restart the STB to find it everything normal. but that was scary moment.

regards

Jitters and Audio Drop exist on EVERY CHANNEL including HD. I had complained about this the 2nd day I got the connection in Feb. However, absolutely no resolution. Infact after highest level escalation, they sat on this issue, had extensive meetings only to inform after 3 months that there is no such issue. Only after I insisted that its easy to prove, they agreed about them and suggested that they have taken a serious note on these issues and will try to fix it in the coming months (seems they were just too eager to CLOSE the complaints WITHOUT EVER RESOLVING them).

Also, you would notice several key English and Hindi SD channels are converted to MONO by TS. Dynamic Range Compression spoils audio on most of the SD and 3 HD channels now (Nat Geo HD till May was fixed after my escalation only to be included to do DRC). Below are the thread on this forum and other on these issues:

Most of the subscribers are IGNORANT of these issues and hence TS is sitting on top of them despite serious escalations. They are VERY ADAMANT in first acknowledging such audio processing by them (which might well be the cause of such jitters/drops/spikes). And when they do acknowledge, they just don't want to remove such processors which significantly cause the sound to get muffled and makes it hard to even listen to vocals at times.

Software issues like you have reported are intermittent and usually do not bother us much. I had to reboot only about once in a month and usually cycling through standby and back resolve most of these issues (TS+HD is very fast when operated through standby mode, only gets slower with more recordings or if it has been a while you have done a hard reboot).

50% signal strength is on the lower side as we should get atleast about 70%. However if the signal quality stays at 100% even during rains, you should not bother much about it.

Do these problems exists on Airtel HD DVR too? I am planning to buy an HD DVR but confused between Airtel and Tata Sky.

Yes I have read on SOD Forum that Airtel also does DRC. I don't think its affected by other Audio problems like TS though. However after recent software upgrade to enable "better" upscaling of SD video, they seems to have REDUCED the video bitrate further.

Trouble is almost all the operators wants us to take the content the way they want! Despite serious escalations, they just want to IGNORE your requests and complaints and still wish to DICTATE TERMS on how they want us to see their channels.

Can we not write to TRAI on these problems in the industry and make them aware what is happening and how the user is being shortchanged. Maybe if a good letter is drafted we can request the mods to forward it to TRAI on behalf of the forum members.

Any idea when Airtel is going to add more HD channels such as Star network.

As per the reviews from the forum members, it seems TS+ HD is better as of now. Do we foresee any issues with TS+HD later on like due to bandwidth issue, they may not be able to add more channels or starts compressing them more than earlier.
TS does not offer universal remote. That kinda puts me off.

I wrote to TRAI 2 months back on Dish TV issues. They never bothered replying despite 2 followups. They essentially seems to be sitting only to take tax payer's money and keep mum about any issues we report to them. Same they will do if we report issue related to TS.

I opened a thread on SOD on how they can fix these issues and not even one subscriber has responded to my post. And only 1 vote has been registered in addition to me to get TS DISABLE all the audio processing at their uplinking facility. This points to the fact that most of the subscribers just don't CARE about these issues. Infact some are more interested in knowing number of HD channels and get nirvana seeing their AVR showing DD5.1 despite it being WORST than what Dish HD gives in Stereo due to all the processing involved (in Discovery HD and NOW with Nat Geo HD).

I personally fought to get 5.1 channel mapping to be done properly and during the 1st week of April they finally resolved it. After that some of us complained that the narration vocals are heard in rear left channel. Probably because of that TS chosen to BUY additional audio processor (despite me doing serious escalation to their CEO and COO) to process audio so vocals get heard from center instead while it also does DRC. Because of it, there is a continuous switching of audio and center sound is very low volume when such conversion by TS is not done (probably to lower the sound coming from rear left channel). So, in the end it has become FAR WORST as earlier we were getting max DR original or close to original audio.

Look at the above thread. Because of the lack of complaints and enthusiasm by subscribers, TS claims to me that they have more than 6 million "happy" subscribers. And I fight a lonely battle for these unbearable audio issues (atleast for me, not sure how some of us are tolerating them). There is a continuous shifting and muffling of sound on these HD channels in addition to jitters, etc. This hold true to several SD channels (if not all) and there are atleast 9 SD channels they are DOWNCONVERTING to MONO including Zee TV, HBO, PIX, AXN and we still keep mum and do not even bother noticing these

I agree completely on your views on TS+HD. That is the best option for us if TS DISCARD those AVL and DRC equipment for processing audio even in its present quality and low bitrate SD and HD channels and limited number of channels (for the time being).

Hi,

I finally booked TS+ HD today. I am using Tata Sky from past 2 years and am satisfied with its service. As the HD channels have increased now and as ESPN and Star Sports are starting their HD channels this month, I decided to finally take the HD plunge along with recording functionality.

I have booked for an installation on this Saturday morning. The Tata sky representative with whom I booked also told that it will be activated immediately. Let's see. Once installed and activated, will post my review..

And thanks to all of you in helping me to take this decision of getting TS+ HD...:clapping:

I upgraded from TataSky+ to TataSky+ HD....it was instant and activation was immediate...........No Complaints there.
.
Only part on the nbr of HD channels restricted to nbr7 whereby there are many more avail elsewhere...Hope they catch up fast.
.
Awesome HD clarity, just have to check the 5.1 audio.

on NATIONAL GEO HD channel i hear background sound more than speech sound, why is that?

purchased the Tata sky hd 6 months back and now the set top box has no signal and the best joke of all is that the call centre says they will send the engineer after 3-4 days.

can you guys imagine the reply to the customer.:mad

That's what I am furious about. They are doing DRC and AVL when they should just pass the original audio. I had complained about Discovery HD audio where when someone was speaking all the background sounds used to get almost inaudible. So, instead of disabling such Dynamic range processing which should NEVER be done atleast on Dolby sound which already has upto 3 DRC profile for PROPER DRC without us noticing it, they have done this not only to Discovery HD World but to Nat Geo HD as well.

Because of DRC and AVL processing you would hear LOUDEST sounds as SOFTEST and visa versa. Also, because of it when ever some soft or loud voice comes, there is a momentary drop/jitter on almost all channels.

If you listen to these channels more, you would notice how high volume sounds and music is almost muted especially when someone starts speaking or during fillers on Nat Geo HD. Its UNBEARABLE for me, not sure why we could not observe and COMPLAIN to TS to stop this BS.
