i stubmled this article which boosted my confidence a little, against my inability to buy costly cables

It's very old news (Gizmodo article dated '08), and has been mentioned multiple times on this forum.

The test was an off the cuff thing added on to planned testing. Maybe, one day, someone will do it with one of the really audiophile cable makers, rather than a mass-marketing company.
