This is about a interesting book that examines the phenomenon of “noise” beyond the realm of auditory sense.
In Noise, Daniel Kahneman, Olivier Sibony and Cass R. Sunstein show how noise produces errors in many fields, including in medicine, law, public health, economic forecasting, forensic science, child protection, creative strategy, performance review and hiring.
Although noise can be found wherever people are making judgements and decisions, individuals and organizations alike commonly ignore its impact, at great cost.
Noise explains how and why humans are so susceptible to noise and bias in decision-making.The authors explain how, while laws and rules are objective, human interpretation makes them subjective.
We all make bad judgements more than we think.
The authors offer some suggestions on what we can do to make better ones. (The book could have been better edited, but still not a bad decision to buy and read)
I am almost convinced humans should not be allowed to make any serious decisions without going through (unbiased?) algorithmic suggestions. If you haven’t yet read it, do try Kahneman’s book “Thinking fast and slow”
