Hi friends,
After countless hours of research, a trip to an audio store in kolkata with cash in pocket for onkyo 3300 and an unbeatble christmas deal in london i finally purchased a Denon 1912. I also got a pair of Dali Zansar 1s. I think , thanks to your help i have got it right for the most part.
my short term goal is to create a good 2.1 setup so my questions are
a. What would be a good subwoofer .. i can neither appreciate good bass nor do i understand subwoofers yet (maybe i will in the fullness of time) i know i want an active sub .. i looked at cambridge audio s80 .. but considering the speakers are Dalis ... which sub would be a reliable long term component that would compliment the set up best?

B. Do i need to buy a step down transformer considering i bought it in uk, but will use in india 3 months from now?
Regards,
K

Subwoofer ... That depends on what would you be using your AVR mostly for... music or movies.... Music would require a tight bass sub and for movies you have a variety of options and for a mix of both ... a overall good sub would be good. For a room of about 200 sqfeet area ,, a 150-180 watt active sub would be enough and for more you would require a 200 or 200+ watt sub. For subs look for Velodyne impact, Paradigm Supercube III and for a budget series Sub u can even go for Wharfedale SW 150 .. Velodyne and Wharf shd be easily available in UK

You can settle with Velodyne impact or Polk PSW 125/110 they should go well with your setup. Setup down is not required for electronics purchased in UK.

I have a Denon 1912 in a 5.1 Setup. FOr the Sub I had auditioned the Velodyne Impact and Klipsch 450 with the Denon and both were fantastic. Finally ended up buying the Klipsch 450 and must say I am mighty pleased with it except for its enormous size but yes its worth every inch of the space it occupies.

Klipsch sb 450 it is.. made a silly ass of myself today unpacked the denon and the dalis only to realize didnt buy any cables. Tht speakers wud come wd default cables. .... wat a noob i am packed it all back in styrofoam et al. waiting to make the next trip to richer sounds in richmond

will just get some cheap cables to make it work and see how it works.. i suppose.. at the moment i only have the avr and the speakers.. want to connect ipod and test..

Does the denon supply enough power for higher range speakers? Seems the dalis are 100 watts but the denon is only 90 watt per channel

Btw i see richer sounds has a pair of wharfdale diamondd 9.0 for 39 gbp are they any good? Ofcourse ill buy the dali vokal center but should i get these wharfs?

Guys just hooked the denon to the Dalis connected some silver plated cables the guy at richer sounds gave me for free ... plugged in my ipod and pushed play .. no setup no nuthing.. and it just rocks!!!!! cant wait to ger the vokal and the arcaydis speakers .. will get the sub india though this is just awesome!!! The sound has timbre its rich and has that oak feel you get when having whiskey in one of the british clubs in calcutta in winter.. this is clear emotional and sensitive sound from the Dalis .. man am i glad i didnt get the onkyo 3300 2 years back.. i just cant understand without a sub how the treble bass balance is so perfect without having to do any manual intervention. Sound Engineers and audioholics i salute you!!!

Now listening to Norah jones after a botttle.of red ... its a shame have to go to work tomorrow. Will compose a meaningful review and a list of next steps... if the Dalis are this good i can only imagine how the arcadyis dm1s will be... i hear hobbits in england build them..
