This is WOW! A capacitor mod.

I can't even dream of reaching that level of DIY, but got to appreciate some one who has assembled their own pre-amp, amp and capacitors! And the modified capacitors look way too good in their lacquered wooden home!

Thanks for the link Keith!

Yes,but older capaciters have opening on top(alluminium cover?)
Once I connected wrong capacitor in my old amp & due to heat/hi voltage it bursted releasing air within it with sound.Luckyly it wasnt a blast.

Faulty caps are known to explode esp those in the Airconditioners. Most of the fires that happen in window a/cs are due to faulty capacitors.

The resulting SQ is suspect with only a vague promise of better sound. Good timepass for those with a practical hand and tools though

Right. He just says "will sound much better than the originals" which I suppose if not really enough.
I guess I would be more convinced if I heard some audiophool words there to describe the result of the mods. You know, words like - expansive soundstage, decay, bite, silky et al. Whatever happened to good old simple words like "Sounds good"?

I even doubt the "Sounds good" part. No doubt this mod will increase the life of the capacitor and is a good method to restore vintage electronics but the characteristics of the capacitor will remain the same as the dielectrics (between the film) inside the capacitor is not changed (IMO). This mod will only give solace to the most die hard DIY'er, who live DIY, sleep DIY and drink only **you know what** :)

I assume that you are referring to restoring vintage capacitors. Nope - it will not restore vintage capacitors. Unless of course you want to believe in that restoration in which case anything will work to restore it.

I said restoration of the vinatge electronics, not capacitors. Restoration of capacitors is not even worth discussing over here.
The restoration of vintage electronics involves replacing the older capacitors and the other degraded components. This cap case mod can be applied then to enhance the life of the capacitor.

Thanks!

Sure! In that case, you mean restoration of vintage electronic equipment. Wrong semantics leads to confusion/misunderstanding so - Chill & Peace brother.

Thanks Keith and Quad. What else they would do to improve? Maybe, someone will start to sell tube valves made of cyrstals. ;)

I'm just curious what could be a probable rationale behind this?

If i were to be creative, I could claim that wood is acoustically more inert than resonances, and prevents acoustic vibrations from being passed onto the insides of the capacitor, where it the impact of the vibrations of the dielectric might end up modulating the capacitance, and consequently impact the signal phase and frequency response :D
