The AV Guru's,
A small doubt that I am stuck with, hope to get a resolution in this forum.

I presently have a descent setup of Home theater

TV : LG50PK550
Receiver : Yamaha HTR6240
Speakers : Warfedale Floorstanding Vardus VR400 (inbuilt woofer)
DTH : TataSky HD

What I dont have is a center channel, surround speakers and an active subwoofer.
I am getting a deal for a pair of floor standing speakers for a very cheap rate hence I wanted to know the feasibility of using floorstanding speakers as surround speakers or is it always mandatory to have bookself speakers as surround speakers???

DO let me know.
Thanks,
Andycool

It will be an overkill unless you watch lot of movies or prefer listening to music in prologic/surround mode. Normally surround sfx in movies wont be carrying much of bass so it will be under utilized.

Denzong, Yes I do have FS already but these one were coming cheap so thought of using them like a substitute for Surrounds.

Santy, so you think it will just perform similar to a Surround only that since they are not meant for it so they will be underutilized but as such should work proper right?

Are you referring to this

If this is for a 'pair', then IMHO for this price it is not possible to get even a decent enclosure, forget about quality drivers.

if the link is correct then i would suggest you to stick to your wharfs for some more time.
dont be in a hurry as there would be many more good ones lined up soon

Towers as Surrounds would be a waste of money .. As surrounds get a very small fraction of power in between the movies..... So I don think towers are suggested for surrounds.. BTW if u r getting the towers for abt 10k go for NEW surrounds//dipoles. like Whafredale 9.DFS or 10.DFS

Yes, thats the link preceisely.
Denzong, I am not replacing the Warfs, the Warfs will be there as front speakers. I am talking about using the once mentioned in the link above as surround.

Anyways, i guess i got wht you guys are trying to say. Will look for some more cheaper yet feasible option :P....

In case you know any such deal available do post I am looking for a center, surround and a subwoofer. My budget is not much so cheaper the better :)
Thanks

dude i am using my wharfs 9.5 as fronts and they are sufficing my needs of woofers too. so dont waste money like this. save it. also if you want u can sell ur current fs and then with the combined money go for a wharf 9.5/6. that would suffice your needs

Denzong, you are right, Warfs are way too good but still I feel a need for an active subwoofer.
As far as the surrounds are concerned will try to give those cheap yamaha surround speakers a try. They are easily available in Croma/Relaince

again will say no.
have u heard 9.5. test that then decide
since u have started the journey for high end stuff you shall regret buying the cheap stuff within a week i am sure.
so think twice

Yes it would cost u more then that but it's a good one time investment. Save and buy rather then putting on cheaper stuff

if you have tyhe money to spend buy a subwoofer like Rythmik FV12 or HSU VTF2. This will be a significant upgrade than most subwoofers rather than spend money on floors for towers when its role is pretty minimal.

not yet...wil be getting it over as someone I know is visiting the US. Havent decided which, as carrying a heavy sub like FV12 is really difficult, maybe a little lighter sub like VTF1...and I could save upto 30K compared to getting a rythmik through shipping!!
