Traveling to Dubai & Bangkok - Front Speakers+sub and AVR withen $1000 - $1200

Hi People,

i am currently traveling for work and will be in Dubai Next week for some work and will then move to Bangkok for another meeting the same week. I have couple of questions :

1) where should i buy the sound system from is it Dubai or Bangkok : is the difference in price going to be much or negligible.

2) any suggestion on combination of AVR and front 2 and a active sub that i can get within $1000 - $1200 ? i dont want a complete 5.1 at the moment. i am more inclined towards Denon or marantz for AVR but have no idea about speakers except wharfedale.

any suggestions would literally help me out with auditioning better system straight away as i will be there for a small period of time.

Good that you planned to purchase the components abroad but keep in mind the following things before you decide on the same
1. Finalize the components to be purchases and compare the same cost with cost in India,Coz sometimes the Component cost+customs would be more for a product which is available in India.
2.I dont think its easy to carry Powered sub with u, so plan for some avr+Bookshelfs speakers
3.Get advice from forum members regarding the custom clearance and the charges.

Thailand is next to Japan for Electronics (in Asia),i believe so ,wishes for your purchase

Niether @ the moment are great for any deals in particular. So check what is available in your budget in the market here & then decide whether it makes sense to buy @ either place or not. Unless for some promotional offers, I doubt you will get a better deal in these 2 places

denom : i heard the HiFI City has some promo going onn on their DG at city square, need to check that once i am there this weekend.

even if there is no better deal the prices are suppose to be cheaper as there is no taxes if i am right.. even i am not too sure about the BKK but my brother persisit that i should give it a try.

@ AUdio_ Freak : coming with powered sub wont be an issue as i am gonna be empty handed and have asked my mom to join. more over i;ll buy weight in emirates plus she is traveliing premium so she can take extra baggage hyeah:

so combined we have around 100 KG i am travelling Etihad and they have a scheme where i am allowed 40 KG:yahoo: so weight is least of my issues.

am not too sure about the customs, i think i can manage that as my uncle is airport manager in IGI Internationl.. even if i have to pay i think i can pay small amount to the guy and get rid off it.

so which are brands should i try. last time they try to sold me HK.. they were oK but nothing special. this time i am going to audition wharfedale for sure and may be marantz 6006.. but please keep your suggestions coming in terms of book shelf

I am also inclined to look for some good bookshelf, as my close relatives are going during the festival. Inquired about proac tablette anniversary from Dubai audio and the price Aed 6075. As 4 are travelling shipping weight should not be a problem. Dont know if it is a good offer, and also inquiring about other speakers. How about b&w685, will it be a stepup from wharf 9.2? Any suggestions welcome.

Jamo C803 for little over 50K.. i think in india they are cost around 80K.. not bad a deal i would say.. i am more than sure that i will end up just buying bookshelf withen the budget and will buy the amp and DAC in india for temporary basis..

i am also getting inclined towards AE reference 1

Nope not justified. With the B&W be prepared to spend a tidy sum on amplification.

The Focals imo should do just fine with your NAD.

Hi, Lucksin, 806v is listed at Aed 1600 at sharaf dg. where did u get the quote of Aed 1300. I am also interested in 806v. But also considering 706v which is 10k cheaper for the same specs.

i got the offer from sharaf dg times square.. dint likd it much though.. the med's were very good but the lower frequencies were noy.. goes only uto 55..otherwise mids and high's were good.. i listened it on nad m2 i guess.
