Not sure if this is the right sub-forum but here goes.

I had my setup all hooked up and running flawlessly since Oct 2009.
Yamaha YHT-292 + Jamo S416 5 speakers + Xtreamer + Panasonic PV8

Yesterday just about another movie was about to end, the receiver just went blank, the video signal stopped. No noise, the unit was not hot, no smell of any fried circuitry. It won't start now.

Tried checking the connections, powering off and trying different sockets.
Removed speaker wire connections (a step mentioned in the troubleshooting manual).

I got it from Vijay Sales (Ghodbunder Rd Thane) and have the warranty docs and bills at hand.. Now I gotta run behind these guys (which I hate).

Just wondering if its something that I could fix myself without voiding the warranty. Any suggestions welcome.

1. disconnect all connections.
2. just the yamaha alone.
3. check the power cord
(if no go)
4. do a power cycle. remove power cord then keep the power button pressed for couple of seconds
5.try in another power socket.

if no go. do not try to open. still under warranty so let them handle.
else we cud have checked if the power supply inside is working or not.

Since it was within warranty, I contacted Vijay Sales who then forwarded the complaint to the Yamaha service personnel. Within the week, a service engg arrived. :ohyeah:
He opened up the chassis and just soldered something near the power input and within 5 secs, it was up and running. :yahoo:

I asked him the reason for the fuse blow up, he said maybe a surge or something caused it. I queried more than once, if I should be using a voltage stabilizer since I already have it running via a spike guard. And he replied No.

I've been looking up stabilizers - and apart from the fact that I'd need a huge one (avr+subw+plasma+DTH+ps2, etc.), Some threads on this forum indicate that using a voltage stabilizer would be worse than not using one at all...
I live in Thane, Mumbai (where there is not that much of an issue of fluctuations). However since I've been bitten once, I'm wary now.
