as of now HBO is not censoring mild words like, shit, etc. ( also in subtitle its written as crap - instead of shit) - based on my experience watching Looper yesterday.
Indian censorship system is bloddy retarded, they air softporn all the times, say it in Latin angel and similar in TLC, brainless Indian movie songs with no scene of dressing and vulgar-indecent poses.
But all great movies will be full of beeps & mutes. Kill-Bill in HBO was a pure joke almost 25% scenes were missing.

If they are not filtering the words, no superimposed ads, no "Press the RED button" crap then that is good.

Not sure whether I will need to do that again and remind them that Annual Mega package was sold to us only at the promise of all new channels added automatically.

I too had a failry heated call with their CR for the SW P : now feel it is not worth the effort as my subscription runs out in two weeks -I did write a polite query on the " Contact us" page-with a half sarcastic remark " I presume you are aware that you are among the costliest DTH provider" - usually I used to receive an immediate acknowledgment of the query and usually a reply within 24 hrs: this time there seems to be a stoic silence! I have decided that I will shift provider.

Airtel is extremely reluctant, for reasons best known to them, of increasing their speeds on the 1.5m copper lines, from 2mbps to 30-40 mbps it is capable of. .

As told by my friend who was in the same domain - With Airtel as the leader, most of the ISPs lobbied and kind of 'Legalized' their Con-Term FUP by winning a landmark case. Their reasoning was that Avid 'Downloaders' make other 'Fair' users 'suffer'. Of course this is a sham as they dont want to buy Bandwidth from 'Backbone' providers (those who own under sea OFC link). This could be the reason that though they may distribute pamphlets in your area about 16MBPS plan just for getting 'Eyeballs', when you inquire, they would reply with truck load of 'Sorry Sir'. I moved to ACT broadband in Koramangla pissed off due to same BS. Though the 'Mandwali' of FUP exists wiht ACT too (and a painful 256 downgrade), they at least peak 16mbps, good enough for streaming 1080p over YouTube. But yes, that is too much of Bandwidth cost

I wish we could have Sued that Million Dollar law suite in India like one can do in US. Consumer Court is nothing less than sham and Corporate conspiracy. We need a Lokpal kind of bill for protecting Consumers.
As for Censorship, day by day we are going to stone age in India. There was a time when Doordarshan and star Movies used to show Adult content at the right time slot. This level censorship is totally violation Consumer rights and we should voice against it. Wonder if you buy a 2000cc Car and Govt put a Speed Governor at 80Kmph !!

Tatas were the last ethical Business houses in India. Sad they have become just another covert company who too thinks Consumer is a D-O-G ...

Jest of the story - India is the country where you most see the Hypocrisy at many shops - "Customer if God' and its vernacular translation. But I bet consumer experience is almost WORST in India. Customer is at least King in countries like US where Companies both dread the customer and bend to new limits to make them happy.

You are making a newbie mistake that was commonly made (even by me) when BSNL first came in

It is 4Mbps (megabits). You need to multiply Byte by 8.
450KBps (kilobytes) = 3.6Mbps (megabits)

For the new HBO HD channels. I started watching these with tata sky HD+.

Some 5.1 audio observations for those who dont already know and for those who might be in deciding stage to get the subscriptions for this aspect.

1) Not all movies are coming in proper 5.1 audio.
2) Dialogue which is supposed to come from center only is coming from front L R in many movies. Though, surround channels may still work correctly in these cases of L R dialogue.
3) Dubbed hindi audio is available for some english movies - can be switched using blue button on HD + remote
4) For English films- Original language may or may not have proper 5.1 audio. However dubbed language is mostly stereo and will never have proper 5.1 (dialogue comes as in 2) above)
5) For Hindi movies, there is no dubbed version. However, hindi viewers should switch to hindi audio track because only that is having proper 5.1 audio. In english track, dialogue comes as in 2) above.
6) Picture Quality of HBO HD channels seems better than Movies now HD which looks very slightly pixellated compared to Star movies HD.

Star Movies HD is still by far the best Hollywood HD movie channel. Doesnt have any of the the above problems

450KBps (kilobytes) = 3.6Mbps (megabits)

3.6mbps is really good speed considering you have 4mbps line. The best we can expect is 3.2mbps (80% guaranteed speed ). use http://speedtester.bsnl.co.in to check the line speed.
Karnataka and few other states have it better as for 1425 plan, we get 30GB and then speed falls to 512kbps. the next plan is 1800 with 100gb and the line speed falls to 256kbps.

3D showcase on tatasky

Tata sky is showing Cars 1 and 2 on Showcase 3D for the week.

Has anyone with a 3D TV experienced the quality? Please share your views.

I am just wondering the 3D source has to be blu ray correct? i mean it has to be Showcase HD in order for it to be capable of showing 3D. They cant possibly be showing 3D in SD. Please correct me anyone if i am wrong here.

Tatasky showed "The Avengers" in 3D on new years eve on showcase. It was available in HD only. No idea about the quality but should be quite ok.

Well. I did try to see Avengers and Planes in 3D on Tatasky but the 3D was not at all good. Ended up watching in 2D!

I switched from TS quite a few months and have experienced 3D only on D2H and its not real 3D but only stereoscopic image/Side by Side or in even simple language images displayed twice on left and right. Ofcourse all 3D capable displays can create 3D out of SBS but that definitely is not blu-ray quality. I would assume even Tatasky is doing the same.

That is quite correct. TS HD 3D was also side by side for Avengers and Planes. But the PQ in 2D, which is how I ended up watching the movies since the 3D was not good at all, was excellent, at least to my untrained eye.
