I have a couple orders for the VPI and a couple for the above version
will make them in one go if possible for all intrested so its faster for me
 
will be making two kinds of rings currently
one is a replica of this - 480 gms

the other ring will be the VPI

the other will be my own design - which will be made of a composite of brass and aluminum - giving the best of both worlds
the bras top will be removable - so if you want it heavy put on the top
if you want it light take off the top

P.S prices of the centre weights havent been calculated as yet though

Do understand the ring alloy is not your regular SS and is not cheap
There is a lot of wastage

also note the high price diff between the two kinds of rings - its is obvious when you analyse why'

expect the same proportion when i make it

will the weight and ring both be suitable for my belt driven pro ject xpression??
pm me the cost of ring plz.
also the only reason i woudn t try making this myself and entrust it to a more seasoned guy is this- (from the article in first link): "The ring finish is such that no harm will come to the cartridge if you lower the stylus on to the ring"
please comment on this regarding your ring.

this i am not in a position to comment
I am not a vinyl head and dont pretend to be one
Im just lucky to know little about correct manufacturing process from the limited experience i have

but reading the article leads us to believe that the lighter ring and weight dont harm even the delicate TT's
The ring is recommended for all TT's

Now using a 5-7 pound! ring - yes that would be the demand of heavy duty TT's like the VPI and some others

as i said the ring should be made in a certain way only

i have explained why somewhere earlier

like soundfountain - we use plasma cut , and CNC mill

about the finish - you are correct, i have taken care of that aspect as well
You will probably scratch the finish of the ring but NOT your stylus

The UNIVERSAL ring weighs anywhere between 480-550gms according to most articles and forums- i will be hitting the same weight.This weight is deemed to be universal for MOST turntables except heavy duty ones like a VPI etc - or ones using heavy platters ( in excess of 14-15kgs)

the VPI ring is a 1.8-2.25 kg monster and is recomended for heavy duty TT's


You need to decide which TT yours falls under
(platter weight would be a hint)
a client informs me that the VPI platter weighs close to 18 kgs

put the record on the TT
then
you put the centrering dic on
then you put the ring
the centering disc allows you to easily sot the ring onto the periphery equally
now remove the centring disc and play
The You tube video in the first post should give you an idea

Note: it is NOT absolutely required
someone with a steady and careful hand will manage just fine

it is of more use in this case since the ring is 3.15mm thick with the counterbore collar only 0.3mm thick

Also it doubles up as a shipping/storage protector so the delicate ring edges are safe from damage when you store and ship the ring etc

when using thicker rings like in the case of the VPI centering is easier owing to the increased thickness

P.S - for the weight - you want the thorens All aluminum replica correct?

i am weary about posting prices publicly
i have had a few issues in the past

For e.g when prices increase - members see an old thread and assume they are getting a raw deal - which is not the case
Secondly it is unfair to resellers who purchase custom creations from me to resell


You would need to trust my judgment in this matter.

i will also appreciate the maturity of all here not to post prices on a public forum of any specific custom item bought through me for the above mentioned reasons
Do understand for me to disclose prices openly i will unnecessarily have to MARKUP my prices then start offering discounts,qty discounts, dealer discounts etc abd have a different retail pricelist etc. _
im a simple guy! - i want to keep this simple

though im pretty sure eventually ill have to surrender to the above

You are free to cross check via PM with others though
