Hi All - while budget is not really a constraint...my room, my AVR, my speakers are not in audiophile territory..Andrew jones PIoneer 5.0 plus denon 1700H. I also have the Pioneer 1020K AVR from 13-14 yrs back and have the Polk 10 inch sub PSW - both from USA...so both of them go into one 220 to 110V converter.

I bought the Denon during Covid purely for Atmos and 7.1 but frankly wasnt happy with the sound..so its idling and I went back to Pioneer. For some reason, although very old, the sound seems very powerful from Pioneer - maybe because during its time it was a mid range AVR compared to 1700H which is the starting range. Maybe I am wrong and something is also wrong with my y(ears) given I am 50+ uncle now.

While the Pioneer does have 7.1 (no atmos)...I have lost the remote and the replacement generic Pioneer remote is not helping me and pushing buttons on the AVR I can only do so much. I read the manual and tried using the upmixer to get 7.1...but no success.

So thought I will get my Denon working again. Issue is that if I remove Pioneer and use it downstairs, I have to take the voltage converter also with me to ground floor and hence have to take the Sub also.

Hence for my first floor HT room - I need a Sub that works on 220V to pair with my Denon... As described above - neither is my room sound proof nor is my setup optimal - hence i just need a sub that has some decent rumble. Thinking 30-40K should be decent enough.

As most of you may have experienced while searching online, VPLAK seems to be the cheapest guy but some reviews quote them as being dodgy.

Hence need help on (a) 2-3 options on Subs that run on 220V (b) Preferably around 30K but can stretch (c) Where do I buy to get the cheapest price. I live in Bangalore.

All this gymnastics just to go from 5.1 to 7.1....although its universally accepted that 5.1 is good enough for movies and moving to Atmos and 7.1 is barely discernible.. Still paid 65-70 for the Denon and not using the Atmos feature. Bought couple of Edifiers for the 7.1 effect last week. Hence want to make use of the purchase.

I dont stream - I download movies and play using my PC. I have subscriptions to all OTTs - hence no illegality or immorality here. Just find downloading and playing on Kodi a better experience given I have unlimited 400mbps connection.

Many thanks as always for your help!!

Hi

There are many HT sellers in Bengaluru where you can audition the available subwoofers as per budget and make the purchase. It would be best to look at subs which are 10 - 12 inch types. If more into movies and you like rumble bass, then ported subwoofers is something you need to look at.

If more into music then sealed subwoofers are good. Yamaha, SVS, Sunfire, BIC America, Polk HTS, Wharfedale are the brands you should look at.

If open to purchase a pre owned one, there are many listed over OLX and even other classified websites. Audition before purchasing with a familiar movie scene and audio song.

All the best!

The Polk Audio HTS10 is the only one that comes to mind. Excellent sub woofer for the price.
There are cheaper sub woofers from Polk Audio. I do not recommend those.

All said and done, would it not be cheaper buying a second step down transformer instead?

I Just purchased a "Golden Ear" brand subwoofer Forcefield 5 - this is decent enough and major upgrade from my earlier Harman Kardon Home theatre in a box Subwoofer. FYI please. Martin Logan is another brand. SVS, REL, Rhythmik are also recommended.

Polk Hts10 abd Klipsch R120 and 121 will ckne in this budget

Thank you all. EVen I was eyeing the Polk HTS10 and yeah..buying the second step down transformer is even cheaper. I got my polk psw 10 for only 99 dollars I think..but the rumbling sound I think is not upto mark. Let me watch some utube videos on how to test subs and post a video here so that you guys can tell me if its broken.

Once again many thanks. IF anyone living in Bangalore want to drop in for a cup of tea and have a look at my setup..will really appreciate it. LEt me also look around for another transformer and OLX for used listings

Hi all..another question..hopefully the last one..how do I know if my sub is broken or whether the sound I am getting is actually its capability and may be I need to adjust the frequencies in my AVR to make sure it handles only those which it is capable of?

Googling and watching some utube videos myself now
