Hi !

1. Currently I have a Intel Core i5 4430 based pc with a Xonar DX soundcard with a LM3886 amp and a pair Magnat Supreme 1000 FS.
The problem with the above setup is that the I can't hear/feel low frequency stuff...30 to 60 hz clearly. I guess its the problem with my speakers.
Then I thought about going for a sub but does a sub takes two speaker level outputs (L+R) ? AFAIK, no. So, that means getting two subs, which would be very expensive.

2. Another way out is to go for an active 2.0 or a 2.1 setup. Then, I can use that one with my PC and move my Magnat speakers to the upcmoing HT setup which would have a dedicated sub.

3. Or I can go for a good quality FS like Mission MX3.

So, what to do :o

4. may be I should get a decent amp before all that ?

BTW, Does anyone have heard the "Symasym" amp ?
Any idea how does it sound compared to..may be the Yamaha AS 500 :P ?

What music do you listen ? What makes you think it is the speakers fault ?

The bass region you mentioned needs a solid sub.

What is your budget for actives ?

Music: Mostly Rock (Cold Play, Goo Goo Dolls etc) and Electronic (Armin Van Buuren etc)

Why I think so: I had tried 3 amps (all are DIY though) and the bass really lacks.

Sub: Yeah, but I wonder how do I connect them.

Budget: 20k (can increase it to may be 30? by mid April)

marx i guess these were the same speakers with Sgautam...

as suggested why dont you try some other amps.. the low end will substantially improve with better amps.

lm you are using wont give enough juice for bass.. neither the topping.. not to a FS and specifically even if you get it.. it will be lousy bloated bass and not what you will be looking for.

hunt for amp.. speakers will do just fine.

Hi !

Xonar DX soundcard

a sub but does a sub takes two speaker level outputs (L+R) ? AFAIK, no. So,

First thing you should try getting is a amp as others suggested. Next thing look at your soundcard. Get a dedicated stereo soundcard like Xonar STX. I hope you have also ensured that your DX card is not wasting the LFE out rather ensuring that pure stereo (with all frequency ranges) is going to your left and right channel.

Next thing is the sub, if the above options do not work then only go for a sub as subs that are "musical" (meaning that the driver is very fast and responsive to frequent variations of lows in music) are difficult to find and also the one to your liking or taste. But there are indeed lot of subs in the market that accept direct speaker level left and right inputs in which case you need to utilize the crossover in the sub, another option is to use a dedicated crossover that will take L-R inputs and give one single LFE out to feed your sub

1. Yeah, I bought it from him !

2. Ok, I'll.

There is a vintage HK amp ( PM-655) in ebay.in, how good is that for the price (18k) the seller demands ?
Also, what about the Norge amps ?

1. I thought the DX was enough !

Yes, I have selected stereo output from the Xonar settings and selected full range speakers in the Windows 8.1 sound controller menu.

BTW, is there any option to send Low frequency sound signals to a sub from the DX ?
If its possible, that would be really cool as I can make do with one sub :)

2. The Astonia Sub doesn't have that option !

But yeah, let me upgrade my amp and see if it makes any change.

I wonder if anyone from Thrissur, Kerala would let me borrow their amp for like 30 minutes to test my speaker :p

There are 4 audio jacks behind the DX one of which does offer the LFE out, which you might also need to configure in the audio settings of the DX. Also ensure that in Windows audio options you ensure that the speakers are not full range

Ok, thanks for the heads up:)

Yeah ! The only thing I didn't like is its price tag :p

EDIT:
Some people say its a "dark" sounding amp but I like very bright, "In-Your-Face" style....not a good match for me and my speakers :(

If that is the case then you can safely disregard my previous suggestion about Quad and Audiolab Amp. They will be laid back sounding.
