Can you elaborate ? What are the nessesary facilities one should have to produce speakers and electronics ?

George, good you started a thread on Venu's system...was wanting to do that myself.

Last Tuesday, Gobble and I visited Venu's place to audition his all Acoustic Portrait system. Very nice setup and like arj mentioned there is a synergy about the system. The speakers could hit you with some awesome bass and still sounded very detailed in the highs and very natural mids. Overall the system had a kind of a heft and attack about them, still not fatiguing. Venu also has an awesome collection of music. Had a great time and would like to visit him again as I had to leave after 2 hours since I was travelling the next day.

Venu's Gear:
Preamp - AP PM-1 (Tube pre)
Power - AP (Solid State)
Speakers - AP Floorstanders (MTM config)
Source - DVD Player->AP DAC (Venu had got it for a trial from Siva)

venuji had built his own DAC. wonder where that is now. was very nice.

also, he had a Pro-Ject TT!?!

Hi Ashok,
This is the same Venu. He still has the DAC he built. The Project TT is down for some upgrades like tonearm re-wire, cart etc.

hifiashok, it is the same person. Venu still has the tda1541 based (analog metric kit) dac. But the rest of his gear has changed from what he had when he was in Delhi.

Discussion is on the same person only. I still have my DIY TDA1541A DAC and picked up AP's DAC only for trials as it has Async USB input (which supports HD audio) in addition to 2 X dig coaxial and Toslink.The USB driver is provided along with the DAC. It has RCA and balanced outputs. It is a fantastic piece of equipment....The ripped uncompressed music played through PC(using VLC) -USB -DAC is much better than when I play the oroginal CD.

I still have the Pro-ject TT and Lyrita phono. The TT was not in use because I messed up the cartridge. Got a new one (2MRed) from needledoctor and it will be up and running again from tomorrow.

sq - I don't know what setup is required for measuring. Maybe an anechoic chamber, some mics, some comp etc. Maybe more - that sounds like a big investment and therefore the assumption that not everyone would be able to do it easily

This new by DAC is really good. I heard it a Venu's place. It certainly deserves movement into the mainstream listening community via a Group Buy.

It has more slam and attack than his good ol TDA 1541 based DAC and all that without causing ear fatigue.

Had a chat with Siva of acoustic portrait regarding the group buy.

His proposal:

- A group buy is possible. If some folks are really interested, they could plan and get together for a visit to Sivas house for an audition. After the audition, if there is genuine interest by a group of people then, depending on the number, pricing can be discussed.

This is the only way it can be done. I guess if we reach the (audition and finalization stage) and if someone who cannot do the audition wants to be part of the group buy, they can also be added.

Siva expressed his inability to propose pricing depending on the group buy numbers like you usually see for group buys in the forum.
