Videocon D2H HD No 5.1 Sound

I am using Videcon DVR box. DTS sound was coming fine till yesterday. Can anybody confirm that they are still getting 5.1 dts sound on Star plus HD or Colors HD. Earlier it was coming for me but since last night it is not coming.

Yep..if you are not using the videocon DVR .. :)

Hi everybody,

I have recently bought a Sony Home Theatre BDV-E490. I also have a Sony Bravia LCD KLV-32T550A and a Videocon D2H HD STB. The STB only has an S/PDIF port for audio. Please advise as to which exact port in HT Blu Ray player should I connect the SPDIF cable to get the 5.1 sound ?

Well, Sir you will have to connect a coaxial cable from the STB to the blu ray's coaxial input. But, since your blu ray player does not have a coaxial cable and instead uses a composite audio input.
You could try 3 methods:
1.2 x RCA Female to RF Coaxial Antenna Plug Adapter Converter | eBay ( Cheap and not reliable)
Get an RF Modulator and convert the signal from RCA into a coaxial. And then use the subsequent cable.

2. New Digital Optical Coax to Analog RCA Audio Converter | eBay (Expensive and Reiable)
You could use a direct converter.

3. Digital Coaxial IN to Optical Toslink Out SPDIF RCA Audio Converter Reliance HD | eBay
You could also use this method.

Apart from these three there is no direct way of connecting the STB to the BDP as of now.

Do hit Thanks if you find it helpful.

Ok. Just noticed that only Star Movies HD, Zee Studio HD and Movies Now HD sound is coming as 5.1.Rest are coming as 2.1. Till yesterday it was coming on Star Plus, Colors HD and few more channels.

Hi,

If I use a "Digital Audio Coaxial SPDIF Coax to Toslink Optical Digital Converter", will I be able to get the 5.1 audio from my Videocon D2H HD STB in my Sony HT (BDV-E490). Please advise.

In my dth its still coming DD in channels - Colors HD and Star Plus HD.
Just checked now. :)

Thanks. Had called customer care and they told me it should work and after few minutes it started coming. Few days back I had raised a complaint with them that no sound is coming if I pause and resume any HD channel with digital sound. Still waiting for a reply from them regarding the same.

I too am not getting any Dolby sound when I set Audio output to 'Home Cinema'. I am already using coaxial cable through SPDF port. Now the technician is saying that the sound is not coming because my STB needs new software. Sounds BS to me.

Is this an issue or has Videocon disabled dolby digital through coaxial and started to give it only through their DVR through HDMI and not on the HD boxes?

I also have not noticed any difference in SQ lately. BTW, how it can be identified whether it is DD or not- except personal impression?

If the signal is from HDMI connection, your AVR should compulsorily display source signal as DD. For Tata sky HD thats how it shows me. Not sure about other connections.

For SD channels, it will display PCM 2.0 while for HD it will be DD 5.1 in source display.

Surround effect is there alright in all channels when I set the AVR to 5.1/Cinema-DSP and it shows on the screen also. Since my TV does not have ARC, I have connected HD STB to TV through HDMI and AVR through C-axial. I'll check with STB---AVR---TV through HDMI also.
