Videocon D2H HD - Software Update

Very recently I moved from Hathway SD to Videocon D2H HD connection. Ever since, i have been glued to the tv . Such was the difference in the quality, even with SD channels.

Yesterday night, there was a software update which went on for close to 5 mins. Following are the changes which i noticed:

1. I was pleasantly surprised to see DVR menu.. yes! DVR menu in normal HD box which is supposed to work like a DVR by connecting a USB Drive to the USB port. :yahoo: Yet to test it though
2. Maximum output resolution from the box has been bumped up to 1080i @60hz (previously, it was 1080i @50hz) :clapping:
3. Available auido output options now are: Stereo & Surround! I have been using Stereo mode for a while now and i didnt find any noticeable difference after the update.
4. All my favorite channel settings are gone
5. I feel there is an increased delay in switching between the channels. :indifferent14:

And now the most unfortunate thing that happened: After the update, the HD box rebooted and i watched it for a while and went to bed. But today morning, my box wouldnt wake up :sad: Tried pulling out the card at the back and inserting it back, but with no luck. All that happens in the box is the continuous blinking of red led light. Already raised a complaint and a service engineer might visit in the noon. They told that the box might need to be replaced. That got me worried as its not even a month old!

Anyway, did u folks notice any other changes? I hope urs is still intact

Updated just now.....after reboot , no picture was playing, nothing. Unplugged from mains and reconnected after 1 minute, picture came, but STB was unresponsive to remote even though it was accepting the IR signal. Rebooted on its own after couple of minutes and all went back to normal now.

Me too think the channel change delay has increased btw.

May be they are rolling out the software update in Kerala, today only.

Morning I made the complaint that my box is not switching on.. and by 1:30 pm, service engineer came with a replacement box (they call it 'Swap' box) and swapped it. Impressive... He told that it would take 2 hrs for my account to get refreshed with the new box and told me to keep the box on.

I kept it switched on and came back to office.. fingers crossed

hey I got the update this morning. has anyone tried connecting a USB drive? This morning after the software upgrade, my setup box wasnt waking up. After 30mts or so, its back to normal.

I had the same issue with the STB after the software upgrade. Raised a complaint yetserday with DTH, and within 4 hours the field staff came to replace the STB. Now everything is fine. I haven't tested the USB, but as per their field staff now you can record upto 5GB in the normal HD box.

Got the update 2 days back here in Delhi.

Noticed the following changes :-

1. The box starting time has increased, and there has been a noticeable lag. :sad:
2. The Channel switching time has increased too much.
3. The SD PQ looks slightly better.
4. The USB function and a slightly changed menu look WOW :signthankspin:

1) after that the channel switching time has increased tremendously & boot was very slow & intolerable

2) USB PVR function yet to check but a link is showing up when you press the red button on center left www.videocond2h.com/usbpvr & its not working

a) longer time to startup
b) longer time to switch between channel
c) logged complaint
d) got it replaced
e) haven't checked yet usb functionality.

yep..its using SBS...

Nothing much to see as the content is repeated...

I had the same issues posted in this thread..logged a complaint. they have changed the setup box however the software in the new setup box is an old one. So I am yet to see is this going to be when the new software upgrade rolls out..

I logged a complaint too, but the problem remained the same in the replaced box too, so he refitted the old one. I am sick of this problem now

Is this software upgrade being rolled out only for HD-DVR boxes only?

I own a HD STB and luckily I havent recieved any software update

If you guys getting this problem for more than a month, Videocon company not doing anything?
What kind of support we can expect from them ? Can't they simply roll back to older firmware if the bug is so serious.
