I am planning to switch to d2h primarily for a few channels not available with other providers.I would like to know how the USB recording feature is working..some questions in my mind.

1.Does it work with 80GB+ external drives without any issues.
2.how is the software and scheduling feature.
3.Recorded video and audio quality on par with live?
4.Any major issues with the recording feature?

80gb external device means pen drive or harddisk,d2h recording comes with two options pendrive usb and harddisk in built. if you go for pendrive usb recording it wont allow to use harddisk,Harddisk will be gone dead so can't use it.any pendrive with usb 2 or usb 3 will work atleast more than 4gb they are advicing.

scheduling is good.

recorded video is equal to live telecast no issues.

dont see any major issues with recording feature.

Thanks subbubusk.

Even am planning to setup this feature of HDD recording over d2h.

Can you pl elaborate "if you go for pendrive usb recording it wont allow to use harddisk,Harddisk will be gone dead so can't use it".. I know the STB will format the drive for its own use (encryption) which can be read back using the same STB. Even CC members were ok using HDD but weren't sure of the max capacity (I enquired for 2TB drive).

Hope the HDD will not be rendered useless. If you tried recording can you pl let me know how much space is needed to record a 5.1 HD movie? Also can the HDD be 'reused' by reformatting..

thanks in advance,
regards

Those CC are dumb, they dont know the actual things, when i used harddisk in USB recording ,harddisk gone not usable afterwards ,it doesn't support harddisk. For harddisk recording you have to buy there own HD+hardisk in built settopbox. Hope this is clear

Pendrive you can use upto 64gb i think .

i recorded a 1 hr 30 min movie it took 6gb size of pendrive. We can reuse the pendrive by formatting. But if u again insert the pendrive in settobbox it will format again.

I am using a 1 TB Maxtor powered USB external HDD with Videocon. No issues yes the STB does its own formatting. Haven't tried reusing it with windows but I guess it should be usable after one more round of formatting.

Good to know you are using 1TB hard disk.My main concern is will it work fine after 40+ hours of recording because while using Dish tv USB recording it didn't work for me and even Dish customer support confirmed that it works without issues only for up to 16GB pen drives.

Never tried to store such large data. I connected the 1TB disk only because it was lying unused. Will check it out.

Though not with D2H, with ADTV HD+ iam using WD MY PASSOPRT 1TB since an year. sometimes it gets hanged after half hour of watching movie, more quicker if I do FF or REW. This specific HDD is not in the support list of ADTV though other WD products are there. So my piece of advice is invest in a HDD only after referring to the D2H support list in the official site or speak to CC who are lame most of the time (more interested in directing your call to feedback department than answering your queries!). Even D2H HD+ experienced FMs will come handy. Invest wise. But mind you will be recording the same channel you are watching which doesn't make sense half the times.
PS: If you are serious about recording, instead of buying HD+ & 1 OR 2 TB, opt for HD DVR with 1 year platinum pack which together cost you Rs.8000 give or take. You can get 1 year pack, 1TB HD DVR which can record 2 channels while watching 3rd one!

I had connect my WD MY PASSOPRT 1TB with videocon d2h 2233 model. it was detect easily and start formatting drive, but after 50 minutes, It was showing message that, "Drive does not use anymore". Please tell me how I can format my 1 tb hard drive and use with videocon d2h 2233 model.
