hello everybody,
I am new to projectors. I am interested in buying an led projector like acer k130.
I want an very simplest setup of a home theater. I want to watch:
1. Tv through tatasky hd+ stb in projector through tatasky stb.
2. watch movies through hdmi cable from laptop.

For the above two requirements what are the basic things I require for home theater setup(projector of course)?
My room size is 10x10. My budget should not exceed 40-42k including everything.

for your budget pls buy epson tw550...miles ahead of the led based ones...
720p
3000 lum!!!!
epson make....

price like 49k....indian warranty

@prosenjit Is epson tw550 a bulb based projector.what are the precautionary measures to take to use bulb based projector.
Can u give me the breakup cost of other things required(I prefer simplest setup). I already have 2.1 home theater system.

2.1 system detail....??
wall colour??

I have one creative 2.1 and one philips 2.1 home theater. Don't know their model number.
I will be repainiting my house shortly. So which wall colour should i put in my projector room.
And kindly give me the break-up cost of all the required things for home theater setup for epson tw550 projector.

what will be your player...laptop/media player/blu ray player..??

a flat white matt distemper paint is as good as any 10k rupee screen.so you can buy screen later...if paint acordingly....and save some money now.
other walls if painnted black is very good..see that whats possible for you..(ceiling also)..

My player will be laptop, ps3 and tatasky hd+.
What is the actual lifespan of epson tw550.

i dont think you need costly hdmi cables...normal will do..as in your set up if you manage you wont be needing long ones like 25 feet walas..

so a pj only is the initial cost......imho..

yes bulb walas need some care..like its better if you do not hot re start....ventilatted space..etc...

whats your plan...celing mount...it will need some cost..the mount and istallition cost will be total like 5k...max..maybe within 3k..
or
simple table top..no cost...

What is the proportion of TV:Movie watching duration

With the room size of 10x10, assuming the entire width of 10ft is used for image projection at 16:9, you will get around 120 inch image and that is far from comfort at a distance of 10ft from screen. If you are more into TV content how long are you going to remain in dark room to watch in projector?

If you want to connect the STB and Laptop to projector and if the projector has only one HDMI port, will it be plugged with STB/Laptop as and when used? Or do you have AVR?

Assuming STB and Laptop will be kept closer to the projector, how do you plan to connect the creative / philips 2.1 speakers to your STB and Laptop?

@prosenjit, @ukjeyaraj Sorry for the delayed response i was busy. I want best posssible maintenance free projector within 40-45k. So i think bulb wala projectors wont suit me.
I think only led projectors will suit me. Kindly suggest best led projector within 40-45k in terms of picture quality.
My Proportion of TV: Movie watching duration is 5:1. I am going to remain an avg of 4-5hrs/day in dark room to watch in projector. I want my projector to be plugged to STB/LAPTOP as and when used.

Chungs,

I have LG LED Projector, its been good for a year now... touchwood..
The latest LED Projectors are even slimmer. There are also good models from Acer and Benq.
all have bulb lifespan of 20000 to 50000 hours. I watch my HD content from videocon from this alost daily. I should have used close to 4000 hours so far... but only 100 lumens..

other new projectors are around 500-700 lumens.

I want my projector to be plugged to STB/LAPTOP as and when used.

If projector is connected to Laptop/STB using HDMI directly, the audio is going to come from built-in speakers of projector(if it has speakers), it may not sound pleasant coz

1) Built-in speakers of projector are not of good quality
2) It will be only stereo 2 channel
3) It will be opposite to screen

If projector has optical out (atleast i dont know such models), then audio out can be connected to your philips/creative speakers(again this need to have optical input) to get the audio and you need to run a lenghty optical cable from projector to speakers system

Alternately laptop/stb may be connected to projector through VGA for video and two channel audio can be connected from laptop/stb to directly philips/creative speaker.

Better think about how both audio and video is going to be fed to projector and speakers system in the room planned.

Choosing a projector LED/LCD/DLP shall be next step.

If TV-Movie ratio is 5:1, my personal opinion is TV content(other than movies) are more suitable to watch in bright lit room rather than dark room and a LED TV is more suitable for that rather than a projector. But again that is my personal opinion

Even though HDMI is used, audio from the laptop will still be available from the headphone socket.. not necessary to use the PJ or laptop speakers..

What is said for the VGA connection in this post also holds true for a HDMI connection.

You are right. But still OP will get only 2 channel stereo and

a) If source(Laptop/STB) is kept near projector lengthy audio cable needs to run from source to speaker system
b) If source is kept near screen a lengthy HDMI/VGA is required from from source to projector.

In the absence of AVR(atleast some kind of switcher), both audio and video cables need to be switched between sources, which IMO is clumsy.

bulb pj is not that you have to take care like a baby....
i understand you are woooriied about bulb change..
ok
kust calculate your view in a year..and bulb lifetime..
i am not saying leds are bad....but bulb will eat up them regarding light output...

otherwise go for acer k330.thasts your best bet..
