Hi All,

I have decided to purchase Onkyo TX-NR609. I stay in Mumbai & will be visiting Dubai for a week in November. Please suggest where (in both Mumbai & Dubai) I can buy the receiver & at what price. Also would preferably like to get the 220V model (I am assuming that the Dubai models are compatible with Indian power) as I don't want to the add step down to the AV setup.

Thanks in advance.

if you buy it from dubai you will get 220 v equipment. i guess by the beginning of 2012 jan/feb there will be dubai shopping festival on when you ll get good deals on all AV equipment. if you can't wait till then check out Saraf DG, VV Sons stores all across dubai. don't know what prices they offer and whether they stock all models.

there are many threads and posts in the forum where you will find leads on buying the nr609 in Mumbai with prices. check out the group buy deals offered by a active member mav where you will find the prices in the group buy as well. not sure whether the group buy is still on.

Hi,

Here Onkyo is distributed by HiFi City which is a sister company of VV and sons (who sell Marantz and Denon). The HiFi City showroom is at the Dubai Mall. I am based in Abu Dhabi and went down there for an audition but was not happy with the setup and choices on display. HiFi City also sell through others like Plugins and Lulu, with their own staff available to help. I bought my package of Onkyo/Klipsch from Plugins in May for about US$2200. That was cheaper than Amazon! There is an offer right now for the TX-NR609 at US$490. Normal price is much higher since they always try to sell you a package with speakers.

The pricing is typically the same across shops since you are finally dealing with the same company. The display and salesman quality varies.

Sharaf DG is known for good offers but very often it is for models being phased out..

Let me know if you need any more info..

Btw, does onkyo provide service (outside warranty ofcourse) to the receivers which were purchased outside India but were brought in legally i.e. paying custom duties, etc. Has anyone availed of it? Is there any particular contact person for the same?

Thanks in advance.

Generally AVRs doesn't need maintenance if its handled carefully. Make sure the voltage levels in your house is under control and you do the software update carefully. Even if you buy with warranty, its applicable for 1year where there will be hardly any defects except for manufacturing defects.

I bought my onkyo 609 from dubai.

I have bought my Onkyo 609 from US for $380 110V, It has arrived yesterday and sounds great. Need to upgrade to tower speakers now :)

I have also got the wireless adapter for $29 and it worked out of the box. Have not tried the net feature on that yet. I will post once i got thru the net feature.

Note : Do not to upgrade the firmware via wireless network dongle, can take painfully 2 hours to upgrade. Copy files in USB and then upgrade would save you 1 hour

make sure you format the USB in FAT32 mode and there are no other files other than this. Even any USB devices (including HDD) should have a FAT32 parition for the unit to recognise it. make sure there are not too many folders which will up the seek time.

Saraf DG & VV Sons both quoting 1990AED (3.65AED/USD) for Onkyo 609. Saraf DG said that the price was 1799AED just a week before I went to shop. :)

Does the 1990AED is for AVR alone or it includes any speaker package. I have bought it along with Jamo speaker package for 2600AED. did you checked the price for yamaha 571/671? if you can't bargain, ask them for free HDMI cables or 14/16 gauge speaker wires.

Hi Guru,

I am in US and have bought a TX-NR 609 Refurbished (like new) from Amazon for $329, was wondering how did you took it to back. Did you carry with yourself? How did you handled the customs stuff?

If you don't care for Warranty. Amazon.de is the best option. You will get the 220 V Piece with (No worries of conversion).
It may cost you around 32 K including shipping and duties.
Mine reached in sharp 5 Days after ordering.

adirulz, I asked my bro to get this as extra luggage in flight, paid about $40 for same. This is the 3rd Receiver i got from USA, $20 at customs does the job. I was baffled when i returned from Thailand in September 2011, saw almost 70+ LED/LCD/Plasma TV's near the luggage belt.

Getting electronics might look like rocket science involving customs, baggage charges etc .. but finally when it arrives; it would still lot cheaper than what we get in India.

Btw one of my friend recently got Epson HD 8250 Projector, Onkyo NR 809 , HDMI Switcher etc.. and paid $40 in customs to clear :)

How did he carry so much.. I mean there is very less weight allowance?? right... max 20-30 kgs i guess,, and 809 itself is abt 22kgs, epson another 10..
How did he manage to clear customs at India?? How much did he pay

Any inputs on this ?? Wat would be the cargo// baggage charges if the reciever is brought from USA to India.. amazon says 30 pounds i.e ~13 Kgs for Onkyo Nr609
