I have WD My book essential 1TB, which was bought in Dubai last nov. I used this for playing movie with Xreamer. I didnt had any problem with that till last sunday.
I was watching "the sting" and took a short break, at this time my 2yr old niece took the xtreamer remote and pressed all the buttons randomly for few mins. I stopped her and I tried to play the movie again, but it didnt play. I was able to play other movies though. I connected the HDD to my laptop and accessed the movie file, It throwed an error message saying some cyclic redundancy check and I have to format the drive. But, I was able to browse other folders. I dont want to format my drive since I had around 400Gb's of data. So, I decided to ran a hard disk check. It took 4+ hours to complete, but the check didnt give any message. I reboot the system and connected the HDD again, but to my surprise, the system didnt read that drive. ( I had two drives one is I: 30+GB and other is J: around 950GB+) But it read the I: . I opened the disk management and it showed that J: is now RAW format. I really gone mad seeing that. Whenever I try to open the drive it asked me to format the drive. So much of data in it. I googled for solution, and the only solution I can find is take data recovery and format the drive. No other way to go, I finally installed data recovery software and I was able to retrive all the files successfully, but my laptop is 150GB only and I can free only 50GB, So i had to sacrifice most of my movies and took only important files for 50GB.
After data recovery, I restarted the system, again to my surprise my I: drive began to show same error. I formatted my I:drive first but the format was unsuccessful, everytime it said windows cannot complete the format, after few tries, I restarted the system, this time both the drives disappeared from "My computer", even it didnt show in disk management. It seems everytime I find a way to rectify my problem, It went worser than before. In disk management It shows the hard disk as "unallocated" with around 930GB of space in the disk management. I really dont understand why 1TB of hard disk shows only 930GB now. Again I look for solution in internet, and I come up with a diagnostic tool from WD website, I ran the tool but within an hour it stopped saying "Too many bad sectors found" and this time I decided to do "write zeros" and start the partitions from fresh. "write zeros' was successfull till 50% but after it always shows error and cannot write zeros on that particular sector.
I lost my HDD now. It is totally dead, Everytime i try to format from disk management it always says I/O error formatting cannot be done like that. I really gone mad. I lost most of my data's, Many movies, I had many secretmyth HDrip collections...everything gone...
Has anybody came across this kind of situation? any advice or suggestions? is there anyway to get my HDD work or buying a new HDD is the only solution now???
