Hi Guys ,

Could someone please give me an advise if Denon 1311 is good to drive Wharfdale 9.5 (Tower Front Speakers), CS9 (Center Channel) , DFS9 (Surround Spekaers).

Denon 1311 is the one which fits in my budget as a receiver. Please advise.

Thanks

Definitely. I have a 1611 which is identical to 1311 in terms of power and it drives the wharfs pretty nice! I guess you can go for 1311!

Denon 1311 should be ok to handle Wharf 9.5 in stereo mode but in multichannel mode it will run out of steam very easily and at loud volumes you might end up damaging its power supply.
The case has happened with a friend of mine who bought Denon 1610 from Denny along with the same set of speakers that you have. His power supply has blown twice due to the excessive load on the AVR.
I think that you should go with minimum 1911 here if you want to play safe.
As Denon 1311 and 1611 is meant for driving a Sub-Sat system.

Well how about the bookshelf ones - 9.2? Will they go well with 1311 and 1611? I am right now thinking about moving either to Denon or Marantz. Marantz SR5005/6005 spec never say anything about 6ohm speaker wattage. It says 100watts@8ohms. I guess for Denon 110watt@6ohms speakers.

What :O :O :O you're moving already???
Didn't you trouble your uncle and just got the 608 from US ;) ??

Secret mission ;-) I hope he won't come to know about this until the next visit. That anyway will take another two or three years. so by then hopefully he will forget about this episode.

Thanks Guys ,

Have got some feedbacks from friends and bro that 9.5 along the CS and DFS will work fine with Denon 1311.

How about JAMO S606 With Sub 200 ? Will they be good with it as well ?

I agree with ashish. Even i recently auditioned Wharf 9.5 - 5.1 set up @Vector in bangalore. These are 150W speakers. It's good to go for 1911. For 9.6 i was recommended 2311 which is more expensive.

@Jasper - where did you audition Wharfs. What is the quote that you have got. Quote that i got is - 9.5 FS [30K], 9CS [11k], 9 dfs [11k], SW 150 [21k]. Looks like some other forum members have got at better prices couple of months back.

Exact same quote as yours at Danny's (Bass n Treble) at Dwarka :-)

What your verdict on JAMO S606 ? I have lined them up for auditions coming Friday. Would Denon 1311 be good with them ?

Most of those wharf prices seem to be MRP. You can easily bargain for 15-20% discount. There is another dealer called Total Sounds, check with him.

Another questions Guys .............

Is 7-8 feet Distance between the two front tower speakers good enough ??

(i.e Center channel comes between them) ...

Please let me know.

Thanks

Jasper, if you are using anything other than satellite speakers (including BS speakers), you have to push the 1311 to nearly 80% of it's capacity on a regular basis to hear dialogues properly. Though the 1611 is slightly better, the best for Wharfedales is the 1911. I have seen the 1311 struggling even with a QA 2010 bases speakers set.

If 1311 is the only option, you have look at satellite speakers from companies such as Canton, Energy, etc.

Cheers

Venkat,
For Wharf 9.6 I am told even 1911 is not good enough as 9.6 are 200W speakers. What has been your experience. Would help me to make a decision.

thanks

200 watts is the power at which the speakers will start to tear. Any amp that delivers some 100 odd watts per channel will work with 9.6.
