Wharfedale 220 - No sound from both woofers Please help

I was listening songs yesterday and suddenly I lost sound from the woofers Wharf 220s in both L and R suddenly towards the end of the song. Tweeters are working. The volume was moderate level only. What could have gone wrong? My setup is Yamaha rx-v477 driving these speakers in 2.0 config. Is there any chance woofers damaged in both?
I have disconnected and connected again the cables at speaker ends. Checked playing FM radio today and it is same issue. AVR and speakers are only few months old and in warranty.

Please guide me to debug this problem.

my money is on something happening to the avr
both woofers dying simultaneously is very rare - try connecting them to your amp

sir check ur speakers with different amp/avr to know the status of speakers .

Disconnect and Reconnect the wires......reset the AVR if possible...check the owners manual

I have disconnected one speaker and connected to center channel. Having the same problem in Center channel also. I have checked all the AVR setting again and it seems to be ok.
I will connect the speakers with Norge and check.

Since none of the woofers are working the problem might be with the AVR..might be some changed settings.

If tweeters are working in speakers
...then its a problem with crossovers inside speakers... Better get the speakers changed under warranty period ...and one more thing ur AVR is at fault... It had send such a reactive current... That your crossover blown up...

Hi,

I have connected the speakers to Norge amp. The woofer is not working and sound from only tweeter. As you have pointed out the crossover must have blown..Anyway finally it looks to be a speaker problem. Hope the AVR is fine.

I will take the speakers to HTStore this weekend from where I have bought it.
What is the process in this case as it is in warranty period. I have refered the warranty sheet came with the speakers. Nothing is mentioned as such.
Do I have to raise a complaint to Wharfedale also? It is only uk website

Will they service the problem in this speaker or replace the speakers with new one.?

I don't know WF 220, but see if metal strip (if has any) for connecting tweeter and speaker banana plugs are correct and not touching only plastic body.

I have checked that. Also disconnected the speakers and reconnected.

Hi

If the speakers are in warranty, they would replace the drivers....if not in warranty, they will inform you the price of the new drivers and also the charges for fixing it....

It could also be a dry solder issue or internal speaker wire connector which may have just come off due to vibration...if the woofers are blown, there would be some electronic burnt smell near the dust cap of the driver...

I had some issues with tweeter on my 121s but it was a connection issue on the speakers not on the AVR.
Crossover fix would cost some amount. But warranty should cover that I hope.

Taken the speakers to HT Store. Connected to their demo room setup to check.
Woofers are not working. Only tweeters are in action. Given for service..

Give the reciever for a checkup as well

The woofer replacement in both speakers will cost 5k. Unfortunately it is not covered under warranty as happened to both speakers due to misuse and I have to pay. As per their view it is due to high power damaged the speakers.

Since I am not using subwoofer, front L and R were set as "Large" in Yamaha 477. ( If "None" is selected for Sub by default the Fronts are set as "Large" by the AVR" ). The volume level varies below -20 to -10db. I have googled on this and read many articles. It was mentioned that some low frequency content/ fewquency response with such dips can cause the damage..Would like to hear expert opinion on this.

Would it be safe to run the fronts as "Small" eventhough Sub is not connected?

s per Yamaha guidelines it is recommended to set speakers above 165mm to large,* so that means anything less than 6.5 inches needs to be set to small.

technically the yamaha has 115W RMS per channel, while the wharfies are rated only upto 100, so they do have a valid point.

Running "large" is fine, but the reciever might have sent more power than those speakers are capable of

thats at .09% THD. It can provide higher power at higher levels of distortion - 115 @ .9%, - at which point the distortion would still be inaudible to the human ear, and I think it could go higher...
