What are RMS, Watts and other output specs

What are RMS, Watts and other output specs for an audio system. How do I compare systems based on these stats and how much to believe in them?

they serve as a benchmark for power. they definitely dont measure sound quality. dont get too stuck into it. the best way to select a system is to listen to it and choose what you prefer
