I just got a sub, various speakers and a new amplifier from my uncle yesterday. Me and my friend were trying to set it up today. We are not at all experts so this is guaranteed our fault. It suddenly started making a flat bzzzzz noise. Even after unplugging everything. so we cut the power. And smoke started pouring out the subwoofer. i left it outside for a few minutes then took it apart. This is what met my eyes.

Brand of the sub is Argon. Dont know the model.

But what i wonder is.. How screwed am i? Is this an easy fix. Or will this cost me near a new subs price?

There is no easy fix. First of with the diagnosis is that tis may be a 120V primary american subwoofer and you plugged it into the indian 220v which roasted everything (or it may have a dual 120 220 V switch behind which was toggled to 110V).

If that is not the case the transformer may have shorted out if the rectifier diodes on the amplifier have gone bad (this is more likely as I am seeing all the blackening around the secondary winding). Send pics of amplifier board so I can help for further trouble shooting with the rectifiers/fuses.

Check the rectifier diodes on the pcb. Replace them and a similarly rated transformer. Will cost you 1000-2000 bucks depending on the transformer quality and VA.

Its not a voltage mistake. I live in denmark and everything is a standard 220volts. The sub cant switch between the two either. i will take a picture tomorrow of it. I just scrambled all over the place trying to make the surround work. But it wont accept my bluray players audio :( maybe the amp is indeed not well

if only the transformer(the black and yellow thingy in first pic) is burnt. you may get it rewound/repaired (only the transformer's condition is clear in pics so no idea about other faults) but considering you are in denmark it may be very expensive.

i worked with some of the transformer suppliers there while i worked in kolding, they were very very expensive

looks like secondary got sorted and burnt out , get it rewound locally..

, or get a replacement via some sea cargo from cheaper mfr

I realized im way over my head with this. Im a mechanic not an electrician :p I found a guy that can help me locally. So i will hand the whole thing over to him. Thanks for trying to help me though. :)
