What is Ambient Sensor in Sony LCD

Hi Friends
I have a Sony NX 500 40 inch LCD, I want to know what is Ambient Sensor and how does this work, how can I check this is working or not working in my TV, because I donot see any change when I put on light and put off light while viewing TV, I have set Ambient Mode to ON position.

Its a light sensor ,it for some reason doesn't work with even a flash light aimed at the sensor.But works very well in natural room light(courtesy of the Sun) a good way to know whether its working is check the power consumption display(by pressing Info not all sony tv has this) or simply see the added brightness.

So it works , stand in front of the tv so that u hide the outside light ,mostly it works with the natural light which comes from outside but not indoor lights,
My pana works like that .....

Well I beleive its the similar function used in many brands by different names. My 11 years old 29 LG has a 'golden eye'. When turned on you can see a real difference in picture after any change in lightings. Also its has auto display to know the level of light source. Good function to reduce eye strain in low lighting.

it is just a small sensor thatr detects the amount of light present and adjust the birgtness of the lcd/plasma accordingly so it should not be very bright or very dull.


similar like cellphones.. when u come out in daylight it turns off the keypad light.. and you cover the sensor and the keypad lights come back on in 1-2 sec.

Check in the Menu whether the Ambient sensor is switched OFF. If it is ON then point a torch light on the sensor you will see increase in brightness of the TV set.
