Hi,

Could somebody explain to me what parameters to look for while buying a Subwoofer cable?

I dont want names/ brands/ models etc - those I can research on my own. I want to know what to look for.

For eg: In speaker cables you've to check the AWG rating, whether it's OFC, shielded etc.?

Similarly what to look for in subwoofer cables is what I wanna know. For instance somebody mentioned '75 ohm' and 'Y Splitter' somewhere. Would love to know their significance.

My target setup is one of these three subs: Polk DSW Pro 550/ Paradigm PDR 100/ Velodyne Impact 10 - connected to an Onkyo TX-NR 616 receiver.

Thanks, but I'm looking to get under the hood a little here... Want to know what to look for in the cable.

I'm using a simple 6 feet Belkin coaxial digital cable priced around Rs.450/- for subwoofer. There are many discussions about using coaxial cable for subwoofer. A 'Y' splitter is needed if you want to use two subwoofers and your avr has only one sub out.

Do not worry. With these entry level subs you have mentioned, you won't find much of a difference in cables. Just ensure the interconnect has adequate shielding, is fairly flexible and has good quality RCA connectors. Any brand from Bandridge, MX, Belkin or any digital coaxial cable from same brands will do just fine.

Y cable just gives you a small gain, ie when both inputs are connected. Does not enhance the sound quality by any means. Same as adjusting sub volume. We can live without it. Two inputs on the sub are given so that you can pair it up with a stereo setup.

75 ohm is the impedance rating of the cable. It matters only for digital audio signal not for analog, AFAIK.

You can buy THIS CABLE, it is not too expensive and meets all basic standards as you mentioned OFC or shielded etc or review this LINK.
