Agree 100%. Luckily I refrained from subscribing to the mega pack. I am on monthly basis for the time being. But with this, I think time now to switch to Videocon, which is now becoming the best VFM.

Is there a lawyer in the house ? I wish some one would file a complaint with TRAI and other appropriate consumer forums - just to give a wake up notice,not just for TS, but all other companies. Also anyone in the media ? Must try and get some newspaper chain to write an article on these sharp business practices.
I cannot find the communication where TS had assured Mega Pack subscribers that ALL new channels added during the subscription period would be automatic and free: I also refuse to subscribe to a channel that keeps defacing the programs with frequent pop ups and cross advrts.
I have just logged on to D2H - to see what's on offer, these guys have been bragging about their 22 HD channels for a long while now- wonder when they will add more HD channels, including this Star Premier.

Its definitely not in the Mega Pack. Had a big argument with the CC staff and registered a formal complaint.
They have changed the terms of Mega pack to all SD channels will be added automatically. Plus they have added it in the Specials category alongwith Toppers which was never in the Mega Pack.
But frankly at Rs. 60 a month, its pretty good to try so subscribed it for a month. If not for anything else, but to see Homeland 3.

When we had taken the mega hd pack... There was no such specials pack.. This condition of not offering special channels was added when they introduced topper.. No one wanted thatpack... Hence nnothing was said... But now they are showing their true colors..
Unfortunately I can't move to another dth provider since my building has tata sky connection and going to d2h will require external wiring in my home which I won't .

I read a lot of posts and yes the practice of TS is to be complained about. many of you have said that you have to watch the series and so you have subscribed to the channel.
I wanted to know why don't you Guys download the serials? Why pay TS 60 bucks every month. You get the latest episodes the next day they are telecast-ed in US and that too without any ads!!! All of you have internet connections at home with pretty decent speed and the size of one episode is around 250 to 300 MB.
Let me know what do you guys think about it.

First of all, at 250-300 MB, quality will be not even close to DVD let alone 1080. A decent size will be around 1 GB or more per episode. Unless u have a super speed such download will take not less than 4-5 hrs per episode. You need lot of patience for that. Yes the benefit is that you get the uncensored original material from US. Whether it is worth Rs60/-, I will say yes, for someone who watches these series on religious basis. That will be less than the even the broadband expense, that you'll pay for the during the month to download the series telecasted. So it is economical too.
Because its piracy and illegal and is a PITA (downloading huge HD files, finding a way to stream it to tv, keeping track of new episodes etc) compared to recording channel on your dth? It has its benefits but I'd always prefer to keep it legal and pay for my content as much as I can. Torrents is a last resort option if there's something I really want to watch but can't find it locally without having to wait for months or heavy censoring which would ruin a show like GoT completely

Ugh. Ads during the show. Only showing their own shows' ads though. But who knows when that will change and it doesn't matter anyways. An interruption is an interruption. Show your ads before and after the show. Not in between. All in all, the only thing premium about this channel now is that the shows are broadcasted within 1-2 days of US broadcast (on average). Which isn't really something which is adding to their costs neither is it something never been done before. Now I truly don't get why they want to put this channel in specials category and want 60 bucks for it. Don't think I'll continue to subscribe it for long. I can live without these shows for now and wait a while before they show up on other "not so Special" channels.

When they switched to HD access fee they informed me by mail that to get HD channels, one has to subscribe for respective SD channels in addition to access fee.
2.For the existing customers they intended to continue the HD channel for 6 months under price protection scheme for which I took an objection.
3. On the day of implementation I didn't get the HD channels which were not in my base pack/ add on pack ( forget about price protection)
4.Sent a strong email about their unfair trade practice, deviation from the original offer of all HD channels for 1 year while reserving my right to seek refund and cost of HD STB on surrender.
5. Next day I got a call seeking some more time as they have software issues for reviving HD channels to HD Gold customers. I didn't accept their apologies and asked them to pay themselves on my behalf for those HD channels which were stopped for the unexpired period of my HD Gold pack.
6.Next day an equivalent amount had been credited to my account with a request to subscribe for the channels what ever I want.
Conclusion: If the issue is tenable you have every right to demand ( including the right to terminate and right to seek the cost of STB on surrender)

To teach a lesson to Tata Sky is only to stay away from this newly launched channel, at least for this first month so that they understand and think about what is going on. Don't subscribe it for now, then they may think why customers are not showing interests.
Called up tatasky to confirm if I'll be losing any money if I unsubscribe this channel next week. But seems like you can't drop it before the month is over. Put in a request to drop it after the month is over. It'll be done automatically so don't need to worry about paying for another month in case I forget to drop it in time next month. Will make up my mind in the meantime if I want to continue or not.
But they deduct the amount on daily basis, so in this way you can unsubscribe it.
U ll only get slaps and blasting from ppl for suggesting such things. I dont have anything personaly against you bro but wrong is wrong and it doesnt matter if your intentions were otherwise.

Suggesting Warez and piracy is banned on this forum. Members need to be careful. Even I received a warning once for an inadvertent mistake and I am a person who never does downloads.
They deduct it on a daily basis but when you unsubscribe a channel/pack, it'll be terminated only after its duration is over and you'll have to pay for it until then. This channel (and I assume all single a la carte channels) are subscribed on a monthly basis minimum. So if you terminate this channel today or even next week, it'll still be stopped on 24th October only (assuming you subscribed it on 24th September).

TS seems to have realised their mistake : If MEGA Pack subscribers call and request for it, they are adding the Star Premier Channel without any additional cost. The person at the Help desk tried to explain that this is being implemented for subscribers who took the Mega Pack before Feb 13:
I blasted the poor fellow ( apologised later that it was not at HIM that I was annoyed with) as TS has a contractual obligation to all Mega Pack subscribers for the period of subscription, unless they have specifically notified the subscribers of the change in terms /conditions.
Still, I am seriously considering shifting providers as TS is sure to savagely increase rates to make up for this fiasco.
I blasted the poor fellow ( apologised later that it was not at HIM that I was annoyed with) as TS has a contractual obligation to all Mega Pack subscribers for the period of subscription, unless they have specifically notified the subscribers of the change in terms /conditions.

Heads up everyone who is annual mega pack subscriber before Feb 2013.
Here is how it worked for me- The first representative on call will blatantly tell u its paid channel for all irrespective of when u took subscription (because they are not trained to tell anything else to tell customer). Ask them to transfer the call to a supervisor. This might take a while to hold but the wait is worth it. Finally when u get a senior'ish person who could speak good english, tell them u have been premium customer for such long time and subscribed before Feb 2013. Also tell them that you know two of your close friends (myself and jbgude on this blog) who got the channel free for the same reason. They should ideally activate it soon after.

I am a Mega Pack HD subscriber of Tata sky. I have been with Tata sky since 2007. However I am seriously thinking of changing my DTH service.
This is ever since I found out that you are planning to charge us for the Star Premiere channel. What is the use of going of going in for the Mega Pack if we have to pay extra for every new channel? When we went for in for the Mega pack it was clearly stated that any new channel will be added free of cost.
As it is, Tata Sky has the least number of HD channels. I wouldn't be surprised if you suddenly start charging us extra for every new HD channel you introduce. This clearly amounts to questionable business practices. I am surprised that a company like Tata which was known once for it's ethics has fallen so low.
I would urge you to take into account your customers sentiments.I lot of my friends are thinking of changing over to other providers as in any case your HD services are very few. Please rethink your strategy of charging your Mega Pack HD customers for new channels.

Tata Sky has been consistently finding ways to overcome the capacity constraint, even at huge cost, to ensure that our subscribers get content of their choice, delivered to them in the best possible quality. Since January this year we have added 29 new channels, SD & HD and will continue to do so in the coming times too. It is possible that some of these new channels may not be of interest to you due to their language or genre. However, you will appreciate that we have to cater to all audiences across age groups and geographies in the country.
Often we come across very rich, high quality content that we know some of our customers would appreciate. However, in some instances this content comes to us outside of the existing commercial deals we have with the broadcasters. Our options are to either not carry this content or to carry it at the lowest possible price we can negotiate with the owners of this content and leave the option of subscription to our customers.
Keeping in mind this opportunity, we thought of creating a Specials category early this year. Our customers who renewed since Feb 13 were informed at the time of renewal and our web sites and other communications also carried information about this.
Star Premier HD is the first such Specials channel that we are introducing.
We hope you will understand our endeavour to offer you a choice of content you may like, outside of our existing commercial terms with the broadcasters.
